The lights are on
We'd almost forgotten that Sony was still selling its last-gen console, but the company has finally stopped shipping PlayStation 2 units to retailers in Japan. The system is nearly 13-years-old. It's time to move on.
Japanese gaming mag, Famitsu, recently ran a story stating that once Sony runs through it's remaining stock of PS2 units, the company will will stop shipping those systems to the Japanese market. This looks like the beginning of the end for one of the best selling consoles in history.
The PS2 first released in Japan in March 4, 2000 and has since sold over 150 million units. I remember being blown away the first time I saw Metal Gear Solid 2 in action and spending a couple late nights trying to finish up Final Fantasy X. R.I.P. old buddy! What are some of your favorite PS2 memories?

RIP.
Same as you almost. FFX and MGS3. It's really sad to see my childhood go like that :_
I got a PlayStation 2 late in it's generation, so I don't really have a bunch of memories of it. I suppose I spent a lot of time with Radiata Stories, that was a really fun JRPG.
Me and my brothers were blown away when we played Onimusha for the first time. It was by far the best graphics we've seen in a video game.
Other memories include buying the network adapter and playing the hell out of the best online shooter ever...Socom 2.
An outstanding console!
We'll miss ya
