The lights are on
Update: An Official Xbox Magazine story confirms that the new Tomb Raider will have multiplayer.
Official Xbox Magazine Just tweeted that the February issue of its magazine will include a detailed story of the game's rumored multiplayer mode. We can't wait to get more details
Original Story: If a recent listing on UK retailer Game can be trusted, it looks like the new Tomb Raider game will include multiplayer.
Game recently listed Tomb Raider on it's online site with the following produce description:
"Play a variety of multiplayer modes as Lara's Shipmates or Yamatai's Scavengers."
That description has recently been removed, but does that mean it's not a feature in the game, or does it mean that it's a feature of the game that hasn't been announced?
What would you think of a multiplayer mode for Tomb Raider? It would certainly be new territory for the series, but does it fit the series style? Would it be like when 2K added multiplayer to BioShock? We'll have to wait and see what Square announces before the game releases in March.

Mmmm... im a BIG fan of TR, and i dont think this its going to work, seriously.
That would be interesting.
I actually thought adding multiplayer to Bioshock 2 wasn't a bad idea. I enjoyed it. This could be a good decision as long as the multiplayer isn't a complete piece of crap.
I like it.
I know this has nothing to do with this game, but Uncharted 3 multiplayer I really enjoyed.
I feel the same about this as I do about the announcement of multiplayer for The new God of War. If they feel it will add to the game then go ahead but please do not get distracted in trying to please the multiplayer group when all previous Tomb Raiders were made for that great single player campaign. If it causes them to lose focus on single player then I will be pissed. For now I'm intrigued.
As long as they are not taking away from the single player mode then I will be pleased.
Im getting tired of developers being forced to make tacked on multi-player games make people buy online passes if they bought the game used, focues on quality and not quantity and youll sell more of the franchise in the first place.
I personally need to say this now before I even get to the main topic at hand: Bioshock 2's multiplayer wasn't a failure. A failure doesn't have a large number of people consistently playing it on two platforms. I can still find multiplayer games on both PC and PS3, so I'd say that at least some of us liked it. Okay? Just because you or someone else may not have liked it doesn't mean it went down the toilet.
Okay, now to the matter at hand... I have no idea what to make of that. Uncharted's co-op was always entertaining, but the PvP was a bit iffy and oddly had similar design to that of Halo: Combat Evolved's original MP (i.e. depend upon rifles, overpowered pistols, and shotguns; use melee if close enough; throw grenades at enemies whenever possible; rocket launchers are your best friend), just in third person and with some platforming. Hopefully they come up with a unique spin to it, and hopefully don't just resort to standard modes of play. Come on CD, we both know you can do better than Deathmatch-renamed-for-no-good-reason.
This bit of new information might lead to me pickup a fav. classic.
No. No. No. NONONO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Now we can beat women together... Online!!!
If it's done right and doesn't take away from the campaign, then it's fine. And to those who are complaining about it: no one will be forcing you to play it. If you don't like it, just ignore it.
This isn't news to me, I remember CD saying that the new TR would include multiplayer, they mentioned it at the very early days of TR9's announcements, I also remember them saying this will be their first M rated TR.
Hopefully they'll stay true to their word.
Not big on tacked on multiplayer but an open world tomb raider multiplayer sounds like a lot of fun.
Could be interesting. A survival/stealth/shooter/brawler multi-player might be pretty cool. Could really make for a great Lost style deserted island arena setting. Will Lara be playable? Unfortunate that multi-player like this still diverts time and money for a better core single-player experience. Could be cool, but I really don't think Tomb Raider NEEDS multi-player.
Wish i could say i didn't see this coming, but who didn't?The developer makes more money off the micro transactions from the mp so it only makes since financially for the studio.
Bu ti fail to see how mo would work in a game were there is literally only one person trying to save everyone. Is everyone going to run around with Bow and Arrows?
I can't see multiplayer working for this.
We will see...
I could see it being something between Uncharted and Far Cry 3, but not as good as either.
