Get A Glimpse Of The Ouya's Development Console

Ouya just did it's own unboxing for its upcoming Android console. Check out how development of the system has been coming along.

A few interesting things stand out here. First the controllers look a little like Xbox 360 controllers, but the batteries are stored in the handles. Second the console is very tiny, about the size of a Rubik Cube. Third, if you missed out on the Ouya kickstarter project, you can still order one here.

Check out the full unboxing of the early developer system (which could still be tweaked before retail) below.

  • This is great, I wish there was a TV console for iOS too...
  • Damn that's tiny
  • I wonder how this will eventually turn out...

  • and all this time i've been pronouncing it "YOU-yuh".
  • Interesting, looks as though it won't be long before I get mine.

  • I got mine when it was called a Raspberry PI.
  • I don't care what the console looks like. I care about the quality of the games/gameplay. Anything on that yet?
  • Pretty nifty. I didn't expect it to be that small.
  • Still don't see the point of this. It isn't like there is a lack of quality consoles or games out there. This is just a way to play mobile games on TV. Yawn.
  • When I first heard about this I was excited. But now I only see it as a way to play iOS games on the TV. And for that reason, I'm probably not going to get one.
  • You know, if it does pick up, I might consider developing for it. The console is supposed to always come with dev tools, just that some developers are getting earlier builds of the console. It certainly looks promising, and I've always fancied the idea of trying to maximize a limited console (kind of like how some people managed to get 3D shooters and platformers on the GBA).
  • I really hope Ouya succeeds it will be a great thing to help independent up and coming developers get into the spotlight
  • I'm interested to see where this goes but I'm not holding my breath.

  • Not impressed, but rather curious. It's so small that you could virtually take it anywhere (it should fit comfortably in a backpack, plus a notebook and some clothes/junk), so airmen will definately keep an eye on this.

  • I wonder how many people who paid for ones of these actually know what kind of games this will be getting or aiming for? Because I heard one person who bought into this because they thought this would mean they would be getting Team Fortress 2 on their TV instead of android mobile games. Or how many people think this will be the next big thing instead of just a little niche console? Because you can pretty much guarantee this will never ever come to store shelves because they will not be able to make money off these.
  • Gameplay please?!?!? We knew what this thing looked like for months

  • Look Great! I might have to get me one.

  • Still a little intrigued by this. Not saying I will be first in line to purchase one, but would like to see what it can do.

  • i really hope this does good ...  i'll probly get it 1 way or another , i mean its only 100 bucks thats not even the price of 2 games theese days
