The lights are on
Using Microsoft's Kinect peripheral, Visceral Games may have figured out a way to encourage players to curse at their consoles.
Microsoft's marketing line "Better with Kinect," sounds good, but we've rarely found Kinect integration anything more than novel. Dead Space 3's use of the peripheral, however, might encourage a few potty mouths to go buy the system.
In a recent interview with CVG, Dead Space 3's executive producer Steve Papoutsis said, "We actually have some commands that people will need to figure out. But there are commands where you might be in a certain situation and you might yell a specific expletive and it might behave in a way that you want it to. We definitely have done some things there..."
This reminds me a little of how the old GameCube game Eternal Darkness would screw with player's expectations. It sounds like easily frustrated gamers will want to leave their Kinect plugged in why playing Dead Space 3, which comes out on February 5. The rest of us are encouraged to be experimental.

I dont have a Kinect.
I swear at my controller all the time so a feature like this isn't new to me lol.
Woah... innovation at its best. =D
Think of it this way CUSS OUT EA
Or act like how you would be if you were loosing or RUNNING OUT of time
I wonder if it has a certain percentage of working... The phrase I'm thinking of could sure be handy..
This is the best game for the Angry Video Game Nerd
Prediction: when you say ***, a naked women will suddenly appear on screen and a sex scene will commence
Seems a little immature, IMO. I mean, commands, cool (I mean, by Kinect standards :P). But emphasising sailor talk is something I'd expect in a less serious game. Then again, with all the blood and gore, not to mention the possible swearing in the game itself, I think gamers being encouraged to swear is the least of our worries :P.
Probably extremely unlikely, but perhaps it could be something like the movie Deadly Silence, where something will try to scare you into swearing, and if you do, it'll either get worse or just kill you?
Yeah, probably not..I still say it's a neat idea though, and am slightly interested to see where they're going with such a feature.
Gimmicky, but still humorous.
Dumb, dumb Microsoft apparently forgot what a microphone is. So did the developers of this game, apparently.
I seriously think this Kinect-only voice command crap undermines the whole potential of these games. Knock it off already, Microsoft!!!
"Better with Kinect." I hate that tagline with a passion. Everything about that statement is completely false.
