Exploring The Musical Soul Of Soul Sacrifice

Sony gives us a behind the scenes look at the development of the music for its monster hunting PS Vita title Soul Sacrifice.

Famed Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune is the designer behind this handheld game, but he's not the only big name Sony has working on the game. Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade) and Wataru Hokoyama (Resident Evil 5), two of the industry's most respectable composers, are working on the music for this upcoming action game. All of the music was recorded using full orchestras and choruses on the Scoring Stage at Skywalker Sound as detailed in this recent developer video from PlayStation's European blog.

Soul Sacrifice is set to release in Japan on March 7, and will hopefully be hitting Western shores not long afterwords.

  • Gotta love epic soundtracks.  I sort of miss the simplicity of catchy melodies in older games though.  Oh well...

  • Neat!

  • The soundtrack seems mystic and spooky. Almost saw related..

  • I thought Okabe did the music for Souls sacrifice...?

He did the unforgettable NieR ost...

  • A game that might be worth getting for the Vita.

  • I really do hope this releases on western shores as well. Looks great so far.

  • This game looks cool. Put that next to Gravity Rush, and there's 2 reasons to buy a Vita. All Sony needs is... at least... 18 more (?) and people will start actually buying them :) Seriously though, a) why didn't they have games like this in production sooner? Like two years ago, so it could've come out when the Vita needed support post-launch? And b) where are the handheld friendly games? Don't get me wrong, Soul Sacrifice looks neat, but it looks like it should be on consoles. You'd figure Sony would've learned from the epic failure of the PSP in every country besides Japan - or just look at history - to make handheld friendly games for the handhelds. What saved the Game Boy were games like Tetris and Pokemon; games designed for it. Games that were awesome in short bursts, yet still had depth. Sony has nothing like that. They really, genuinely believe that the answer is portable console games, and that's pretty dumb. And it's worrying; it says about Sony, "We don't really have a finger on the pulse of anything. We don't know what we're doing"... which, of course, isn't really new for them.* * - http://kotaku.com/5960411/how-sony-is-turning-into-a-ghost-in-japan-and-around-the-world

  • That sure is one interesting monster....
  • for vita! nice!

  • This is one of the reasons I'm THINKING about getting a Vita. Well this and Persona 4. I keep hearing great things about it, and as an avid JRPG lover I feel that I'm missing the boat on the Persona series. The problem is I will be too caught up in Monster Hunter Ultimate to give this a shot.

BTW the soundtrack on Xenoblade was absolutely amazing. I commend Mitsuda for that. It's not Skyward Sword good, but it's a very close 2nd.
