Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Gets A New Beta Roadmap

by Andrew Reiner on Dec 26, 2012 at 10:34 AM

In September, Square Enix outlined changes planned for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Beta testers will soon be able to see if Square's decision to mend this heavily criticized MMO will pay off. Final Fantasy XIV's website has been updated with a new beta roadmap that calls for a February 2013 start date. The first phase focuses on the core systems rebalancing for the PC version. Phase two focuses on the PC's gamepad control adjustments. The PlayStation 3 beta kicks off in the third phase. Phase four is open testing for both versions.

Legacy status holders are eligible for the beta. Players with a Square Enix Members code (bundled with Final Fantasy XIII) will be given priority for the PlayStation 3 beta.

In phase 1, the level cap will be set to 35, and all races and genders will be playable across 5 to 10 worlds. Interestingly, characters created in the fourth phase will not be deleted. They'll carry over into the official release.

Square hopes to launch the beta tester application site in early January. Check out the beta roadmap for all the details.
