Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Trailer

It was teased earlier this month, but now the Lighting Returns: Final Fantasy XIII trailer is officially here.

So, first came Final Fantasy XIII, then Final Fantasy XIII-2, and now Lighting Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, which isn't confusing at all. Check out the trailer below to see Lightning look cool in some some sunglasses standing in front of a giant clock.

Lighting Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is releasing some time in 2013.

  • Please...please kill me to spare me from another final fantasy XIII game. Final Fantasy my ass
  • Now I see why Barthendelus wanted to end the world (or "renew" it). Just let XIII die already.

  • Yep, still want it. I miss Lightning's gladiatrix outfit from the last game, though. Hopefully the Kingdom Hearts crew is giving these guys some pointers on how to do platforming and action-y combat, if that's really the direction they're taking this one.

  • I really hope this game cleans up the XIII entries. I do like them and I am looking forward to this game but, I'd like to see square enix move on to something new.
  • 1) Even though Lightning looks bada**, I kind of miss her gun blade thingy 2) I really hope this makes up for the past two entries because Final Fantasy XIII was meh and XIII-2 I played the demo and didn't like. 3) Did they really pick 13 days because it's called Final Fantasy XIII
  • So FF Is pretty much dead. RIP
  • I seem to remember her wearing more clothes.

  • I'm gonna have to say I'm gonna have to put money down to try it.  I hope it's good.  I just don't like XIII because of the battle system.

  • I know it is very early, but the gameplay looks like it takes several hits in framerate. Also, where is FFV13? If it isn't going to release, then they should at least make this game an action-rpg in the vein of Kingdom Hearts. I just wasn't too crazy about the combat system in the previous FF13 games.

  • WTF? Why? Just why? Move on all ready, some of us want Versus. At this rate Versus won't be out for another three years and we'll have so many Kingdom Heart spinoffs that no one will know the story to the game. I mostly want Versus done for KH3 (some inteview said that Square won't focus on KH3 until Versus is done) but at this rate I doubt we'll see either for another few years which is dumb.

  • The Battle-system is now action of RPG, I can't wait!

    EDIT: Sorry for double-post.
  • Reminds me of Crisis Core. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I like the battle system in XIII, and XIII-2 was OK although I really didn't like that staggering was much less important except for some bosses, otherwise you could just power everything and kill it before it staggered.

  • (sigh)

  • so lighting is the only character you can play now? i will have to see more due to fact is disliked 13 and 13-2.

  • I hope she is not the only playable character.....then the game would seem like a devil may cry type of way (if she is)

  • So... Is this XIII-3, or are we getting XIII-3 later? This looks like it could be a spin-off.

The battle system looks interesting, but that's about all it has going for it. I don't like Lightning's new look, I don't like the funky parkour, I don't like that this seems to take place entirely in a city, and I dislike that this seems like it may not even wrap up XIII-2. It's too early to make a judgement call, but I really hope this turns out better than it appears at first glance.

Now, personally, I really like XIII. They tried something different, like they always do. I don't see that as a reason to hate on the game. I suppose the pacing is not what you expect from a FF title. It just whips you through the areas, and then when you get to the open world, it's pretty barren. That said, it does work fairly well, and I found it quite enjoyable.

XIII-2 was also good, in it's own way. It's not meant to be taken as seriously as a core entry. They improved a lot of mechanics and gave us some features we wanted in XIII, and then gave us a sort of silly, cheery story. As I said, not a serious FF title, but still an enjoyable game, none the less. I'm saddened they didn't end it there though, and I'm really uncertain about this new title. It reminds me of Dirge of Cerberus, in a way. I actually enjoyed that game, but in it's own little world. It's a spin-off, not required to play through for the main story, completely ignorable. This is looks like it may not be, and that frightens me a little. Despite raving fanatics that would claim otherwise, XIII has done pretty well for itself, if they *** it up now, the whole trilogy is going to sink. Then who knows what'll happen to the franchise.

And on that subject, what exactly is Square's plan? XIII Versus looks amazing, no where to be seen. Type-0 IS amazing, not even whispers of localization. XIV has been out for years, and isn't finished. We've seen nothing (except maybe a tech demo...) of XV. What's going on over there? I guarantee they can get back on the right path, if they wanted. All they have to do, is give us a tentative date for Versus, confirm a NA verson of Type-0, and give us a teaser for XV. As interesting as Lightning Returns might be, it isn't what the majority of us want, and with the lack of communication on the other fronts, it certainly isn't helping our faith in Square Enix.
  • so.... there is two final fantasy 13s then? and they both suck? good to know. still waiting on VERSUS.

  • I thought XIV already came out though?

  • Lightning !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
