The War Z Released On Steam Today

Hammerpoint's online multiplayer zombie survival game is out of beta, and now available on Steam. According to Hammerpoint's press release, The War Z has over 600,000 registered users, and usually logs 150,000 unique players per day.

The game had been previously available on a beta, but this version on Steam is being called a "Foundation Release" -- which means that it's improved over the beta but will still be added to and enhanced in the months to come.

There are three price tiers of The War Z available on the game's Steam page. The basic game is currently on (slight) sale for $13.49, and the $22.49 and $44.99 nab you 2100 or 7500 in-game gold credits, respectively, along with the game.

According to this forum post (via PC Gamer), people who have already purchased the game will get a serial key that will allow you to convert your current account to a Steam version of The War Z. You will then get Steam Achievements and be able to use your Steam wallet to purchase in-game gold credits.

  • About time! I've been waiting for this for a while!

  • This game has such a play to win system that I will never be intrested
  • I've been watching this a little on twitch.tv but I'm honestly looking forward to the DayZ standalone release more
  • I wish my computer could run it :(

  • I dunno'. It doesn't seem as good as DayZ.

  • I need a better computer to play this game. I would defenetly get it if I had a better computer for gaming!

  • Do not buy this game. Its garbage and such a blatant cash grab, its not worth supporting. The awful community and servers filled with hackers don't help either.
  • How I wish that the name was changed to "The World War Z". I mean, that game could be almost any genre of game. We could have anything from a first/third person view type game with heavy stealth and survival elements, to a a RTS/turn-based strategy game that begins with you in control as a supreme war commander managing the military from Redeker plan to eventual conquest of the zombie forces, eventually getting to some kind of version of Hero City (New York City). Please don't tell me I'm the only one who wants this.
  • Despite hate from DayZ and hackers on high populated servers, I've been loving this game ever since it released in alpha. The creepiest atmosphere mainly from massive paranoia of other players.

  • I really want this game but I don't have the money.

  • Cool! If I had a PC, I would definitely get this game.

  • But it's still in alpha... and it has almost none of the features advertised on its store page. It's all kinds of not cool for them to pass it off as a full release.
  • Game sucks, don't bother.

  • Ehh, I thought it was cool, until I saw that you could just mow through zombies. Eh, lame!
  • Doesn't Steam have a policy against releasing crap games?
  • I'm really excited about the possibility that one day, the idea of zombie survival will be done in a way that is amazing and feels right. So far, this isn't looking like that game. I was hoping it'd be Dead Island when I saw the trailers for it, and that fell through, too.
  • "Foundation Release" as in the devs knew the game was garbage and thought, "Hey, it doesn't SAY beta, so people will think its a full game!" The Steam description is full of lies as well.

  • Will it ever come to MacOS on steam? Is everyone going to laugh at me for asking? I hope not, because I really want to play this.
  • But I want to know if people like it, or even prefer it to DayZ.
  • Not really interested. Heard this was a Day Z ripoff. Besides, I like the idea of supporting the little guy.
