Steam Community Market Enters Beta

Valve introduced the Steam Community Market today, which will expand upon the Steam service and allow players to buy and sell in-game items for Steam Wallet funds.

The Steam Community Market is currently in beta with Team Fortress 2, and will be available for other titles beginning next year. The Market is supposed to expand Steam’s economy beyond the popular trading system, which is currently seeing over 500,000 trades per week, according to Tony Paloma of Valve.

Do you have any interest in buying or selling in-game items?

  • It sounds cool, but I need a good PC first.
  • Buying and selling in-game items? Hopefully this will eventually be expanded into "selling used games" as well. Maybe not in the States, but Valve needs to do this soon in the EU to remain in business and comply with the court ruling that was passed down over the rights of owners and digital downloads.
  • That's pretty awesome!!

  • STEAM BOX!!! STEAM BOX!!! BA BA BA BA STEAM BOX!!!!
  • Sweet, I have random tf2 things I got from playing L4D2...I'll get like, 10 cents? :P Regardless, this kind of thing is awesome.
  • It's all the fun of Diablo 3's Auction House but without the hassle of slaughtering demons! I am okay with all of this, but I hope they expand on tradeable content soon. Crates and other nigh-useless items aren't cutting it for me. That said, this is still only just me. And good on 'em for giving me a use for crates.
  • ill try it for sure i love steam.

  • awesome.

  • As soon as you can pay real money for unusual hats... there will be hundreds of dollars flying around.

  • What's the point of this? Almost nothing is sellable according to my TF2 backpack. Just keys and tools and stuff that people already buy with real money online.
  • Cool.

  • Hm, I wonder what effect this is going to have on the already stupid TF2 economy?
  • Great Steam in computer or laptop can download great.

  • Yes.. Oh wait, is 2 dum4 kompootrz, bad 'ol Xbox keepin me down

  • Well, no big news. Long has been since many of us have made some money selling a bunch of random items in TF2.

The linux beta still has some nuisances on it. The overlay screen is burned in the game.
