Square Enix Announces Star Galaxy

Its countdown site didn't quite refresh as quickly as it was supposed to, but Square Enix's announcement is here, and it's for a game called Star Galaxy.

The website is in Japanese, so there isn't much information to us English speakers, but here's some rough Google translation answering the question, "What is the game Star Galaxy?"

"Star Galaxy" is a simulation strategy game that takes place in the galaxy.
Enhance the military to develop the territory of planet that is home to organize our officers were brought up to their liking, emergency, fighting to the sector.
In cooperation with the friendly, self-force will lead to victory.

So, there you go. Simulation strategy in space. It will be entering beta soon and hopefully we will have more general information about the game soon.

Update: According to rumor (and our comments section) it looks like Star Galaxy is a browser game. The best evidence so far to confirm this rumor is that the system requirements list assorted Internet browsers and the latest version of Flash. Is this something you are excited about checking out?

  • wow. I'll never get excited about a Square Enix teaser site again. first there was The World Ends With You teaser that was just an iOS port, and now this? My excitement level just dipped significantly

  • Well, I saw that coming. Quite dissappointing nonetheless.

  • DEAR EVERY DEVELOPER/PUBLISHER EVER: Please stop doing countdowns for browser/ios games. Seriously, what a bummer.

  • Wow this is the 5th time that SE has disappointed me.
First: The announcement of a FF game in the works... turns out it's a Lightning game
Second: A teaser site goes out about TWEWY and it turns out it's an ISO port
Third: No info on Versus 13 but instead info on FF14 at Tokyo Game Show
Fourth: No thoughts on localization of KH 1.5 Remix or FF Agito for PSP
    Fifth: THIS

Seriously SE has been messing with me lately WAY to much and is about to end up where Capcom is to me. I came hoping to see Star Ocean or something and come to see some military strategy game. Seriously this past week seemed like a really disappointing week for gaming due to over-hyping.
  • Star Galaxy... The name sounds rather redundant, and silly.  But I'm listening.

Strategy, simulation, you say?  Hmmm, sounds cool.  I'm interested in seeing more strategy games these days.

    Browser?  PASS.

Give me a real video game, and I'll be there to buy it.  I have no interest in shallow browser games.

  • God **BRAAAHHHH**, Square. Whoever made the 'abusive relationship' analogy was SPOT ON. It really is. We can't HELP but get excited when they make big announcements like this, and we can't HELP but be disappointed when it turns out to be something that we don't want, never asked for, and could honestly care less about. Granted, everyone has their own laundry list of desires, but you'd find that the majority of us want certain things: English language Type-O, KH3, Versus 13, TWEWY2, etc. etc. We can't all agree on which Final Fantasy is the best, but we can pretty much all agree that we'd like more work to be done on the series. God, I'm really annoyed at y'all.
  • Plus, there's a guy with a facial dermal piercing. Really...??

  • Browser based game?.......HIHAKJGASksdjkaSJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ

JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ Whoa, sorry, just fell asleep on my keyboard...

  • The last great Star Ocean game I played was The Second Story. This does not interest me in the least.

  • I didn't really have any excitement over this other than to see if this was a new Star Ocean game so I could tell me brother, but seeing what this is, anything I was thinking about this is over. So... I don't care!
  • booo i wanted it to be another star ocean

  • meh

  • i was delusionally hoping that somehow Square got their hands on Rogue Galaxy and made a sequel. Sigh.

  • I was hoping for Star Ocean 5, so this news bums me out. Even if it is ultimately cool, I doubt we'll get to play it.

Square Enix countdown sites are really getting out of hand. The World Ends With You one in particular still stings.

  • ugh a browser game? people still play those?

  • zzZZzz... zzZZzz.. ..ZZZZZ rgh PHEW!.. zzZZzz..

  • That picture, especially the focus on that blond man, looks more like role-playing as in S&M more than anything else. In which, I'm still not excited about.

  • I am not too excited about Star Galaxy just yet.  Maybe once I see some mechanics.

Does anyone else feel "browser based game" comes with a negative stigma?

I wonder what it  would take for a browser based game to be considered on par with other computer games.  Can't help but think about how Realm of the Mad God and Minecraft both got good starts as browser based games.  blah blah blah

  • Eh, a browser game?  Did not know those were still as popular.  Seems like SE and Capcom continue to be letdowns.

  • Advance Wars in space? Sounds like a good idea to me.

The nice, simple name of "Star Galaxy"? From Square Enix? Not something ridiculous and stupid, like... I dunno... "STAR: Super Terrestrial Acti-Rotation" or something? That's great for Square Enix!

    This sounds promising!

    ...

Oh. It's for the browsers? Nevermind.

I mean, browser games can be great, but it's not even going to require a Unity plugin or something? Meh.
