Blizzard Still Teasing Diablo III For Consoles

Even before Diablo III’s PC release, Blizzard has danced around development of a console version, but information on when, what platform, and even official confirmation has been scarce. In a recent interview with Polygon, though, the company confirmed they’re still toying with development of a console version, but aren’t ready to reveal much else about it.

The most promising revelation came from Blizzard executive Rob Pardo, who told the site, “We've got builds up and running on it. We're hoping to get it far enough along where we can make it an official project, but we're not quite ready to release stuff about it, but it's looking pretty cool."

It looks like a step in the right direction to make the console dream a reality, but Diablo III lead designer Jay Wilson also confirmed that the company is still,  “exploring console options,” which as we thrust forth to a new generation, could be an obstacle.

Wilson also told Polygon that his team is working on the, “next big Diablo thing,” saying, “A lot of that stuff will show up next year at some point." Time will tell exactly what’s to come, but it does sound promising.

  • I've been enjoying Torchlight 2 a lot more than Diablo 3.
  • They can keep their always online DRM money grab to themselves. Diablo 3: the game where everything is horrible except the game itself. Luckily, there are so many great videogames released nowadays you can skip it without missing a beat.
  • Dear Blizzard/Activision,

Please get your security in check, fix the issues with the real money AH, and release the PvP that you were supposed to release with the game back in May. THEN you start worrying about porting it to other platforms.
  • If I want a loot fest, I will go back to Borderlands 2. Thank you Blizzard for being concerned about my loot addiction though.
  • Seeing as how the control scheme for diablo3 fits perfectly into control use, I don't see why this comes as a surprise to anyone. I'm pretty sure they created Diablo 3 with the mindset that they were going to port it to console, which is a shame... Because the game suffered for it severely.

  • I was really let down with D3, one of the main reasons I have been playing Torchlight 2. If I heard correctly I guess quite a bit of the crew from Diablo 2 created the Torchlight series which is awesome. To me D3 just didn't feel like a Diablo game. I mean it was ok, but not what I was wanting at all.
  • Whenever I see something with/from Polygon I think of Phil

  • It's cool take your time do not jump the gun on this

  • I would be down for a console version.

  • Yeeeeahhhhhh, thanks Blizzard, but no thanks. I wasted my money on the PC version, if I want to relive D3 I'll just burn $60 while thinking about something disappointing and achieve the same experience.
  • At this point i don't even want to play it on console.

  • I dunno. well, goodluck.

  • Mod
As a late adopter, I'm hoping for a current gen release, but am skeptical. Still, I appreciate Blizzard's efforts. I'd love to play it on consoles.
  • That'd be stupid... Diablo has always been a PC game. Gamers don't like shifts so much. They should have released Diablo on consoles from the start.
  • too late. Wasn't almost everyone disappointed in D3, and the sole reason for its success was the success of its predecessors?

Game at its core was good. What they screwed up is everything around it: dificulty tuning, item quality and drop rates (for decent items). Shame, could have been so much better.
  • I would love to get Diablo III on consoles, especially if I could play with people who are on PC/Mac, since my computer can't run the game.

  • Too late Blizzard because the word is out. Not many people are still clamoring for this to come to consoles anymore so do what you want because it likely won't be missed in 2013's incredible game lineup. GTAV, Bioshock Infinite (which I admit looked like *** at the VGAs), Rayman Legends, The Last of Us, South Park, possibly Smash Bros U, Dark Souls 2, Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, and I could go on. Torchlight 2 was better anyway IMO so yeah Blizzard, you aren't that special anymore. Nobody is sitting around with baited breath wondering if your wares are coming to their consoles. Trust me console only gamers, you aren't missing much. DL Torchlight 2 because you likely have a PC that runs it (req. specs are very low end) and it is better than D3 and one-third of the cost with no DRM.
  • I hope it actually does come to consoles. I really want to play it, but don't have a computer powerful enough to play it.
  • How about they focus on the PC version and fix that POS first. Such an epic let down
