The lights are on
If job postings are to be believed, Popcap is looking to expand its operations into the console market with a much larger scale game than their typical releases.
Popcap usually releases smaller, but very fun, games like Peggle, Plants vs. Zombies, and Bejeweled. The job listing says, "PopCap studio is looking for an experienced generalist SE to build a AAA console title. This generalist will work on a broad range of game systems including, but not limited to: animation, audio, resource management, pipelines and visual effects. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with the Frostbite 2 engine."
The Frostbite 2 engine is the engine used to build Battlefield 3, if that gives you any idea of the sort of scale Popcap is looking for. My wild speculative stab in the dark? A mature Peggle with huge explosions that uses the Frostbite engine's impressive physics and destruction capabilities.

That's slightly different than what they normally do...
Probably another underperforming FPS. But I hope it's good, COD may someday need a replacement.

At least someone is making a new IP.
As a huge fan of Popcap games, I hope this turns out to be false. But if it's not, then I hope they don't go too far away from their roots.
