Nintendo Hardware Sales Exceeded 1.75 Million In November

According to NPD, Nintendo sold a lot of hardware in November.

According to a week's worth of data following its November 18 launch, the Wii U sold 425,000 units, nearly matching the Wii's launch week sales of 475,000.

Resulting from high Black Friday sales, this marks the 36th time that Nintendo sold more than 1 million units in the span of one month. Between the 3DS and DS, portable units were responsible for 910,000 hardware unit sales, while the Wii and Wii U sales were around 845,000.

"The groundbreaking Wii U, the continued strength of the Nintendo 3DS and the enduring appeal of the Wii and DS drove momentum on Black Friday and through November," said Scott Moffitt, executive president of Sales and Marketing at Nintendo of America. "Wii U is off to a tremendous start in the United States, it is essentially sold out at retail, and has cemented its status as the 'must-have' product this holiday season."

  • Very good to hear. The WiiU has reaffirmed my love for Nintendo after some of their more questionable calls with the Wii. I'm really loving my WiiU, and I'm glad to see that so many other people will as well.
  • This is fantastic!  Glad to know Nintendo's still moving units.

  • Funny how they say they sold out at retail when I was able to find Wii U's in my area before, during, and after Black Friday no matter what store I went to. lol
  • good numbers i say.

  • Yet another successful product from Nintendo sells well. I'll just wait until a Zelda or Mario Galaxy game comes out ^^
  • That really makes me happy. Nintendo is the company that started me on games. I can't thank it enough. I will get a Wii U if I get the chance.
  • I still can't get over the staying power of the DS. It really is this generation's PS2.
  • Glad to hear this (and not just because I hold stock in nintendo :P) The wii U is definitely an impressive console and im glad to see it have sales nearly matching its cheaper predecessor at launch, and the staying power of the DS continues to amaze.
  • The Wii U is stunning. The 3DS is breath-taking and the DS is sooo powerful. They all have legit games.

  • Well, well. Good for them. :D

  • That's a great amount of investment and money too.
  • I need to get a 3ds or a wii U. The Wii U looks awesome, plenty of fun games on it already, even if they are ports.
  • the test will be in the new year and if consoles keep moving. I suspect they will but IMO word of mouth is going to be more important than traditional marketing. I still think Nintendo has not marketed this thing correctly but when I get people to actually play the system and sit down and play Nintendo Land, especially Mario Chase, they love it.

  • The DS and it's other versions has been in stores almost a decade...

  • I'm fine with that.

  • Essentially sold out? Then why do I keep seeing several of both models in stock in every department store I walk in?

  • Glad to see the Wii-U doing well. Despite the software, I love, love the hardware. Nintendo really made an exceptional system with the Wii-U.

  • Good for Nintendo! They deserve a break after their financial struggles fiasco.

  • Keep up the good work!
