The lights are on
Eurocom, the developer behind the recent James Bond title 007 Legends, has let go the remaining of its staff this morning. Last month, the developer cut about 150 jobs and today cut the remaining 50.
"Since 2008, there has been a steep decline in the sales of Console and PC games, which has led to a severe contraction in the number of new games being commissioned from global publishers of entertainment software," the studio said in a statement to Eurogamer.
"The company has also faced intense competition from developers in countries with lower costs or those subsidized with generous games tax credits."
Eurocom first opened in October 1988. The developer last shipped Harry Potter for Kinect, 007 Legends, GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, and GoldenEye 007 for Wii.
It's sad that they are closing, but they should probably just blame sub-par game development rather than a million other things when they talk about why things went awry. Plenty of other developers have done great in spite of global financial crisis and international competition.
Maybe we can get something straight here. Most of Eurocom's games were crappy licensed games because they were contracted to make those. Activision drove them into it. When you look at their games which received more attention and were more original, you can clearly see the talent they had. Look at Goldeneye and Dead Space Extraction for examples. The talent was there, it was just squandered on rushed licensed titles which were assigned to them. This is sad news.
hate to see this happen but that life.
Damn that sucks.
I actually really enjoyed goldeneye 007 reloaded for what it was. Sad news and this sucks for the developers and us gamers.
Eurocom should seriously stop blaming the "declining of console and PC games sale". Look at Rockstar games with their GTA IV in 2008. Rockstar games earned $500 million in revenue through GTA IV. And activsion with their COD. I still wish the devs the best of luck and hope they find another in another company soon.
Too bad for the employees but they had some weak projects. That 007 game looked like a last generation title.
Wow I had no idea they had been around for so long. Best wishes to all those who lost their jobs.
That's what they get for making stupid games.
I'm really not surprised this is happening to Eurocom. It still is unfortunate, and I wish everyone at the company the best of luck!
Despite the game being of poor quality, I hope the best for those that got laid off.
Well with games like 007 Legends i'm not suprised that there sales have been slow.
I'm sorry but the PR statement is laughable. The fact is you guys made a bunch of terrible games in a row that shouldn't have even been put on the shelf. That is why you are out of business. Hopefully the good ones that are getting laid off will have no trouble finding another position.
