Actor Tom Hardy Confirmed For Splinter Cell Movie

Ubisoft and New Regency are teaming up for a movie adaptation of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell starring Dark Knight Rises and Inception's Tom Hardy in the role of Sam Fisher. This official announcement follows rumors circulating earlier this year.

This is the second partnership between the two companies after the Assassin's Creed film deal starring Michael Fassbender, announced in July.

Ubisoft also revealed the screenwriter on the project, Eric Warren Singer. The writer's resume is brief, with only 2009's The International credited so far. Check out the trailer below.

“For Ubisoft Motion Pictures, creative control is key and New Regency shares our commitment to respecting the creative freedom of our team," chief executive officer of Ubisoft Motion Pictures Jean-Julien Baronnet says in a statement. "Their ability to produce both blockbusters and intriguing indie hits is an ideal fit for the Splinter Cell franchise.”

Ubisoft has not revealed a projected release date for the film at this time.

  • Great ! * Sarcasm * How many movies are going to get turned into video games ?! Can a game just be a game ?
  • The International was a pretty boring movie, but it was well-made, and the one action scene that took place in Guggenheim was really good.
  • I love Tom Hardy. I love his character in Inception.

  • YES! bane fisher!
  • Between this and Fassbender in Assassin's Creed, I'm pretty darn excited for the future of video game movies. Hardy was great in Dark Knight Rises and Inception (he's also amazing in Lawless for those who haven't seen it yet).
  • oh~ interesting

  • Still waiting on a World of Warcraft film.

  • Hardy's a fine actor but not for Sam Fisher.
  • This actually wasn't a bad casting move at all

  • It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

  • The shadows betray you, because they belong to me!

  • In all honesty you can't get much better with Tom Hardy in this role. He is a little more beefed up but with his rising talent he could bring the role to a whole new level.

  • If there is one thing that could make me excited about a movie adaption of a video game, it would be this man as Sam Fisher. Sadly, even that fails to interest me. I have found most games that turn into movies are as bad as movies that turn into games.
  • Not a bad actor choice to play Sam Fisher. Here's hoping for a halfway decent movie adaptation.

  • how about the original teaser that Ubisoft put out years ago on one of their games! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atq0xLARLz0
  • Tom Hardy is the new Mad Max, too. Pretty psyched for Fury Road!

  • I have never played Splinter Cell! This really looks good though!!
  • Yay for Tom Hardy! Boo for singer! The international blew chunks

  • Has nobody seen warrior? That was an incredible performance! One of my favorites! The sheer brutality in that movie set him up perfectly for the dark knight rises. Interesting choice for sam though as he is an older character. But i won't doubt tom hardy as he is my favorite actor currently.

  • Hopefully these movies turn out good. I enjoy both actors.
