The lights are on
Ruffian Games, the developer behind Crackdown 2, was working on a new downloadable Streets of Rage game, but it was canceled. Some footage from the game has snuck its way online though, giving all of us a chance to look at what may have been.

The footage didn't look half bad. Shame it wasn't finished.
Is there supposed to be sound because I'm not getting any.
Oh man, I'd love a new Streets of Rage. Though the actual "fist-fighting" in Crackdown was one of it's weaker features, and the combat in this demo looks far too slow for Streets of Rage.
Wow up yours vimeo making me go onto your site for the HD
Well early footage clearly of the game, maybe could of had potential.
ah~ interesting game though, sad thing its canceled.
*Insert "Noooooooooo!!!!" here.*
Well that was surprisingly better looking than I expected. I was expecting it to look like crap, but it doesn't look that bad. Can't say the same about the sound since there wasn't any. This might actually be what a new Streets of Rage would look like or should've since this might have been that very game. I love the homage to the original in the beginning and alot of aspects they kept from the game. Mostly likely wouldv'e been a downloadable game, but still might've been good.
I recall playing the arcade version and loved it. Yet really...this game was not even on my radar to care. Even then knowing it was being made to be cancelled.
So as I see it. Enough with talking about cancelled games. How about digging up news of some super secret projects. Maybe news when Microsoft or Playstation will bring out their next Console first? That is what really people care about next to games that are not cancelled....also some that should have been.
Hard to say from the brief glimpse, but it could have been an awesome DLG. Streets of Rage was my favorite brawler back in the day on Sega CD.
I'd be all for a downloadable streets of rage with online coop. Hope that some day we'll see one.
Good games getting canceled a lot lately...
I hope no one takes this the wrong way but...I sort of feel a bit glad this was cancelled. I mean look at the combat. To me it seems so stiff and repetitive by doing that same spin attack with the pole. What happened to the 2D combat style? I have no problem with the Streets of Rage series but watching this video gave me no indication that it was related to Streets of Rage in any way.
It was canceled because they made Crackdown 2...But yeah, I'm glad they didn't remake Streets of Rage. Compared with my childhood memories, it just couldn't stand up.
Loved the originals. Too bad this is dead.
That looks decent enough.
would love for a streets of rage remake, as long as its better than double dragon neon...
This had a Fighting Force feel to it, I woulda accepted it.
This hurts my soul. I'm a huge fan of beat em' ups and it just hurts my feelings that they were so close to remaking one of my most favorite beat em' ups of all time. I still don't see what they could've lost if they just made it an xbla/psn game. I'm pretty sure it would've sold decently at the least for $10. Double Dragon Neon was a pretty good game in my opinion especially for just $10. I wish the beat em' up genre comes back in some way, shape, or form. Ig i'll just have to console myself with Streets of Rage Remake for the PC then....
