Wii U's Second Firmware Update Available Now

The Wii U's second system update is available to download right now. Nintendo is being vague about what the update changes or fixes saying that the update offers, "Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience."

Nintendo also warns repeatedly not to unplug your system during the update as it could cause damage, and that it may take an hour to download the latest update. You should turn on your PlayStation 3 (it probably needs a system update) and your Wii U and make them race!

  • One nice thing I noticed about this last night is that you are able to choose to automatically power down the console once the update completes. Ran the update, went to bed, and woke up to a turned-off, updated console.
  • Last night when I downloaded the update I was downloading the necessary software when setting up Steam Big Picture mode. They raced, Steam won.
  • I think an hour to update a system is ridiculous. Why not offer a wired option so that downloads speeds would be faster?
  • The PS3 does not take that long to download and install an update. And it doesn't always need them.

As with everything, it depends on your internet speed.
  • An hours? It took mine about 10 minutes or less. The first update took an hour, but this one was rather quick. :/
  • I took care of that earlier this morning.
  • This is the update with achievements right ?
  • haha yeah it took mine about an hour. My PS3 on average takes around 2 hours for an update EVERYTIME depending on what it is. REally long update times don't bother me, I mean I can do other stuff for a couple of hours no big deal. I don't understand while people get so upset over them since it's just a company trying to better their product.

I was trying to figure out what this update was last night though, and was asking ppl on Miiverse but nobody knew.

  • @LOZFAN1

I like how you have something to say to everyone. You clearly have the Triforce of Courage, my friend

  • We will get another update too, coming in a couple weeks for Nintendo TVii.

And hopefully another update that speeds up the OS.
And hopefully another update that adds in party chat.
And hoepfully another update that makes it easier to add/invite friends during a game.

Who would think I would be clamoring for so many system updates? oh well. Baby Steps Ninty. Lovin' my Wii-U though :)
  • "You should turn on your PlayStation 3 (it probably needs a system update) and your Wii U and make them race!"

Hahahaha, that gave me a hearty chuckle.

  • The second of many many more. God speed my friend god speed

  • Guess what, I have PlayStation Plus so I don't have to worry about the updates that aren't as frequent or take as long as everyone says.
  • Hey maybe its because someone was already able to access the wii U debug menu?

    What do you guys think?
  • playstation updates arent that slow to download. its the installing part that bites but hey  a few minutes of something called :tv: and its all good.

  • Hah turn on the PS3 and make them race. LOL

  • The PlayStation doesn't update this frequently. I have updated mine 5 or fewer times this year and if Nintendo keeps up with these updates coming out every other week or every month people will be more than happy to endure a 5-15 minute PS3 update.
  • Great... in the middle of December the possibility of a power outage just keeps going higher. Seriously, they need to fix their system to have a backup encase updates applied to it error.

  • an hour?! well, maybe if your internet is at 1mbps lol.
