Perfect Destinations For Open World Games

by Kimberley Wallace on Dec 03, 2012 at 06:30 AM

With tomorrow's release of Far Cry 3, the lush South Pacific comes to life on our game consoles. This got us thinking about what other destinations would make for a great open world experience. The viable locales for a game seem endless. So far we've been to the snowy mountains of Skyrim, the crime-filled streets of Hong Kong in Sleeping Dogs, and experienced the American Old West in Red Dead Redemption, just to name a few.

But what are some destinations ripe for an open world game that have yet to be explored? Do you prefer when these worlds are entirely fictitious like Empire City in Infamous or based on real world destinations, such as Assassin's Creed, which transported us to Jerusalem, Italy, and colonial America? Most importantly, what makes these worlds come alive for you?

Personally, I want some more futuristic worlds, which is why I'm looking forward to CD Projekt RED's Cyberpunk. As well, I've always thought Australia's outback would make for a good romp. The outback is beautiful, and the opportunity to be transported there instantly with realistic graphics is an opportunity I wouldn't pass up.
