Big Picture Mode Goes Live

Valve said today Big Picture mode is now available to the public. It was in beta mode since this summer. Big Picture allows players to access Steam games on a television and includes additional controller support. To celebrate, Valve says it's making over thirty controller-friendly games on sale from now until December 10 though Steam.

  • The only problem is that you need lots internet access. My internet usage is limited per month, so as cool as this is, it isn't an option for me.
  • not a huge fan of Big Picture. It is a lower resolution than can be displayed on my monitor, and my 27" monitor is big enough for me.
  • How does this work exactly? Do you have to hook up your computer to your TV using HDMI?
  • I don't much care for it to be honest. The resolution seemed off, and about 70% of the times my games wouldn't work with it on. I do love me some Steam though. There's nothing better than those darn Summer Deals...I mean I got Deus Ex- Human Revolution, Saints Row 3, Amnesia Dark Descent, And Dead Space 2 for like $20 total, it was crazy.

  • steambox incoming :D
  • In the big picture, this is huge.

  • well now we wait to see if they have hardware they are making as well.

  • well, atleast theres a sale today. :D

  • Well, it's pretty much been available to the public for a while now, just in beta. I don't really think I'd ever use this, though, since the game I mostly play is TF2 and my computer sucks at playing anything released in the last 5 years. That's why I have a console.
  • Aesthetically, I really like it. It reminds me of a cleaner Windows Media Center (which I thought was not that bad).

It's actually easy to navigate and when checking your game library, there's a drop-down with all those that are controller compatible. I like the direction it's going in, though I have absolutely no qualms over the current interface. It's awesome that's it's just a Mode and not a complete overhaul.

  • I just wanna play TF2 (and maybe Guild Wars 2 if I can run it) with my 360 controller!!! How do I hook up the controller to my pc? Anyone know how??
  • That's cool.  Too bad I'm not a huge PC gamer.

  • This seems like a lot of work on a piece of software for something I can already do...
  • Aww nice, I'll need to try this out when I get the chance seems like a cool way to play my indie games.

  • I asked for a Steam gift card for Christmas..

  • v That

  • I wonder if it'll work with metro 2033?
