Dixon Brothers Actors Confirmed For The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct

AMC’s The Walking Dead deviates from Robert Kirkman’s phenomenal comic series in a number of ways. One of the show’s most distinct alterations is the addition of Daryl and Merle Dixon. These roughnecks had a hard time of it preceding the show, and Activision’s The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct tells that tale. The actors have signed on to provide their unique southern drawl to the game.

Michael Rooker plays Merle, and Norman Reedus plays Daryl Dixon. These actors lend two stand-out performances in the award-winning show, and their involvement with Activision’s games has us more hopeful about the prject.

A completely different project from Telltale’s excellent episodic The Walking Dead adventure series, Survival Instinct places the focus on FPS action. The game is being developed by Terminal Reality (Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Kinect Star Wars), and is due out next year on PS3, 360, and PC.

  • Well that's a plus. Not really looking forward to this but at lest the voice actors won't be complete *** for two characters.

  • Man i love me some walking dead. If this game had a better developer behind the wheel i would have had at least some small modicum of hope for a good walking dead fps...but alas ghost busters and star wars kinect were not exactly instant classics :/
  • I feel as though this game already has higher expectations coming after the awesome Telltale game. Comparing a shooter to a puzzle/click and point adventure might seem unfair, but since since The Walking Dead is spheavily focused on story, I kinda think the latter may still end up being the better game. We shall see though.
  • Not sure how I feel about that studio developing this game. Even if the game sucks, which it probably will (do these tie ins ever do well?), I'll still continue to love this show.
  • That info definitely makes me much more interested, but I wish I knew a lot more about how the game is gonna look and play.

    I suppose time will tell...

  • oh~ interesting. looking forward to this fps-survival game

  • That's good to hear.

  • You guys forgot to add Ghostbusters and Kinect SW in the "games mentioned"

Also, I wish I could have more faith in this game than I do. I get the feeling it just won't match up to TT's episodic games.

  • I loved the Telltale games. While having an FPS TWD is interesting, but I can see how it would fail. But it does help that they have the actual actors for the game. Might end up getting it, but too early to tell.
  • I REALLY hope that this game doesn't flop...
  • Daryl FTW!!!!
  • Personally, I'd rather have it as an over-the-shoulder, Third-person Shooter, just to mix it up a bit.
  • Daryl's my favorite character on the show and Merle is a very compelling villain. I'm excited for this game and I'm sure it will turn out great.

  • Ah, so they ARE doing a full console game for fans now. The episodes were just a warm-up I see. . .
  • Daryl is my favorite character on the show. I'm hoping the game can capture at least some of his awesomeness.
  • I've seen an ad for this game for at least the last month when watching the show. Funny they're "confirmed" now, since the ad states that who you will be playing as.

For the record, I think the graphics look like they were created on the Wii and then ported down to the PS2. Due to the fact Activision has got their talons into this franchise and is publishing it, can only mean a short development cycle which gives me the utmost confidence that this game will not be very good.

Activision doesn't care about James Bond or Spider-Man - do you think they care about a quality Walking Dead game?
  • Daryl is probably my favorite character from the show and I'm kinda starting to like Merle but I still don't have high hopes for this game. Terminal Reality did kind of impress me with Ghostbusters (mainly because I love the movies). I might check the game out later down the road but I just don't see how The Walking Dead can be turned into an FPS action game when the show, comic, and TellTale series are all based on character development rather than action action action.
  • Personally, I find their additions to the show to be reprehensible.
