Bungie's Destiny Was Referenced In ODST

Leaked details about Bungie's first post-Halo release have been circulating over the past few days, but the studio has been planting seeds about the game for several years. An eagle-eyed Halo 3: ODST player noticed what looked like a reference to the upcoming game, and it was confirmed by a member of that game's development team.

Twitter user Ryan Butler sent Vic Deleon a link to the above image, asking the environmental artist why exactly Destiny's planet and close-orbiting moon image was featured in an in-game sign.

Deleon responded with the tweet below.

There you have it. Perhaps this will inspire people to stop and read the signage more often. You never know what you may find.

  • :D that's nice not just Ubisoft makes early hints about future games
  • Well, that's interesting. Good to know that if you look hard enough at a game, you can find something mind-blowing. The tricky part is knowing what parts to look at.
  • I love easter eggs like this. It makes being a developer so much fun.
  • I always read signs in military shooters to practice my Arabic. However it's not always correct...

  • And the apple finally realizes his heritage came from that of fallen oranges. How mechanical pencils have fallen from grace. Bumblebee soup.
  • This is really cool actually. I wonder what other games have done something similar to this? I guess that looks like a job for... GAME INFORMER!!! (pretend I said Game Informer like a superhero's name would be said)
  • Very cool. I'm not surprised at Bungie doing this, and I'm glad these hints are starting to be found.

  • That's pretty neat. Given that they've been sorta working on it for a while, I'd hope that they'd already have everything revealed.

  • Ive seen that before but never thought anything of it. Bungie is the Easter Egg master! Referencing a game nearly 4 years in advanced?
  • I remember seeing that and thinking this was probably the case. Didn't make any sense in the context.
  • Well played Bungie, well played.

  • Hahahhaahhaha nice.

  • This reminds me of The Last of Us in Uncharted 3.

  • Yeah they reference the game in Star Wars too. A lot.

  • Really, uh oh wouldn't something like this allow Microsoft to make a claim for intellectual property rights? Hope not, this type of stuff is fun (like the red truck across dreamwork films) and I hope Microsoft sees it the same way.
  • Um... I thought the deal wasn't even made by that point? I wouldn't put it past Bungie to plan ahead, though.
  • Finally been found? This is really old news, the Bungie community found it pretty much right after ODST came out. It was linked to Destiny the moment the name was known.

  • Well this makes me want to dust off the old games and go easter egg hunting

  • I love Bungie with a passion.
