Report: Next Xbox Arriving Holiday 2013

According to unnamed sources speaking to Bloomberg, Microsoft is set to launch its successor to the Xbox 360 in time for the holidays next year. The report states Microsoft is still undecided about whether or not the company will unveil the console at E3 or a separate, dedicated event.

Microsoft has declined to comment on the report.

Previous rumors suggested the codename of the console is "Durango" and will likely ship with the next-generation Kinect camera. Other rumors say the console may tie your game purchases to your Xbox Live account, effectively locking out used games.

  • Crossing my fingers for a similarly dated release for the ps4! I would actually have money to spend by then lol
  • Locking out used games would sink xbox.
  • the whole no-used games is stupid. there will be a lot of angry people (including me) if that rumor turns out to be true...
  • I actually gasped when I read this, super happy about this news

  • No used games, no new Xbox for this guy.
  • So that means by mid 2014 i should be on my 4th xbox720
  • both systems are going head to head next winter.  I feel sorry for those who want both systems. E3 2013 will be good.

  • I can't wait. I have a lot going on next year such as my high school graduation, Marine Corps' Basic Training, finding a nice condo, and much more. So a new Xbox will be a relief for me.

  • Not surprised, and I thought that Lockout thing was already confirmed as a stupid rumor. Bungies new title will probably be a launch title. Ball is in your court Sony, you don't want to spend all next gen playing catch-up, again.
  • I feel sketchy about the next Xbox. I feel like they'll focus too much on the Kinect, considering they've been devoting so much of their time to it this gen so far.

  • Locking out games is a horrible idea that video game companies should not even be considering...
  • Unless the next AW is exclusive to this, I honestly can't see myself buying one-GoW and Halo don't really apply to me.
  • That's pretty much what I figured.

  • Locking out used games entirely is a completely idiotic idea in my book.

Wonder if that next gen Kinect (if it exists) will have better software than the original. I loved the idea, but the execution was really lacking in my book.

  • I think both Microsoft and Sony will announce their consoles outside of E3.  Or at least one of them will.  It'd really be overwhelming for both to share the spotlight on the same week and garner an optimal amount of media attention.

  • They are so many good deals on the internet these days or on Steam that games are usually always on sale or are cheap somewhere. By getting rid of used games, it will only allow Microsoft and game developers to produce more revenue and provide us with more of what we want in the future. With how developers have also been turning more and more towards F2P models, I wouldn't be surprised if this rumor were in fact true. While renting games or buying used games for cheap has always been a benefit to the consumer, it has been a detriment to the distributor and producer. This really wouldn't affect me if it were to be true as I generally only buy a few games as it is (most really aren't worth the money), and you can always wait a few months later for the price of games to drop (if there isn't already a deal somewhere on the internet). Hopefully the new Xbox will not have the same terrible launch the 360 had with the Red Rings of Death. I do not want to have a second repeat of that after going through nine 360s...
  • not looking forward to it sadly ... but who knows i guess we'll see

  • YES. I knew it was smart to tell mother to hold off big present this year. I'm FINALLY going to get a console that isn't four years into it's cycle.
  • about time. better be backwards compatible
