Warface Nets Over 5 Million Registered Players In Russia

On the day Valve announced six million concurrent users on Steam, German developer Crytek announced that five million players registered for Warface, the company's free-to-play FPS for PC. Unfortunately, no one sent Nintendo a memo saying today's number gloating is about millions of people, not hundreds of thousands.

Crytek and Trion Worlds are bringing Warface to Western markets, but no release date has been given as of yet. Warface also won a Runet Award this week. Runet Awards are handed out by the Russian Federal Agency on Press and Mass Communications each year to companies that contribute to the development of the Russian internet.

  • Well that's different.

  • Contributions to the Russian internet huh? Cool stuff

  • That is the worst name you could give to a game. Its worse than Warfighter.
  • If i have a pc by then i will probably check it out.

  • CryTek is German? My life is now very different...
  • 5 million registered users means nothing. I can create a website about taking pictures of your crap, and then entering said crap pictures into contests where two winners are chosen from the pool of crappy pictures. Contestants will have their poo judged on size, weight (approximate), color, density and shape. The two winners then have one week to prepare for the ultimate poop-off, where they can use whatever methods they deem appropriate to create, and lay, the ultimate poo.

The resulting poo's would be entered into one final contest, where the users of the site get to vote and choose the winner. The winner will then get a Golden Toilet. And you know what, my site would have 10 million registered users in a matter of hours. Registered users mean absolutely nothing. Literally, nothing. It means zilch. Notice how they aren't talking about how much money these "users" have spent? Notice how they aren't talking about how much bank they are making?

That's because registered users is a numbers trick. How many of those millions registered and played the game for 5 minutes before deciding they didn't like it, or just didn't want to play it. Free to Play shooters like this always, always get a lot of registered users because you are forced to register if you want to try the game. Publishers do this so later they can say they had millions of users sign up for the game, when the number means nothing in reality if those people aren't spending any money.

If the game was actually successful, Crytek would be talking about how much money they were making. Instead, they are faking success in the hopes more people will sign up and spend money.

  • Hey this doesn't look half bad. Might check it out when it comes overseas.

  • Apparently 'next generation shooter' means current-gen gameplay and good graphics, with a free-to-play business model. Still, hope it does well. Looks a tad too generic for me to be too interested.
  • In Soviet Russia, Warface register to play you.
  • LET ME SEE YOUR WARFACE!!!
  • Yeah, and the next F2P shooter will be called "gunshooter"
  • Listening to that trailer reminded me how good Halo 4's guns sound. I wonder if my PC will be able to run this game though.

  • ooooh~

  • MECHS!? SOLD.

And it's free, so... that's cool.

However, the audio for those guns is atrocious. I might as well make the sound effects myself.

  • Looks quite nice.

  • crytek please bring that game to ps3 or xbox...preferably ps3
  • Is it just me or did all the guns sound a bit muffled?

  • I've never heard of this. Sounds cool.
  • Wonderful. Now let's get this game running over here already. Tired of hearing about a game being played somewhere else(if I'm not mistaken), while we're all sitting here waiting on it's release. Seems like a lifetime ago, I registered with them. Still...no game yet. :/
