Rumor: Mini Wii Coming Soon

The Wii has served its masters at Nintendo well – the console leads the current hardware generation in sales. Perhaps striving for that last sales push, there's a rumor that a newly designed Wii is coming out soon.

Nintendo World Report says it has obtained info from a major retailer that states the new Wii will come out on December 7, complete with a sensor bar, nunchuk, and Wii Remote with Wii Motion Plus and a jacket. No word on the price of this possible bundle.

If true, this would be the second redesign for the console.

  • Why?
  • Sounds dumb. Wii U has already been released. Just stick with the original Wii and let people play that. They make things smaller and then try to give consumers a bogus price for them. NO Wii Mini !
  • Not sure many people would buy this. Most people already have a Wii, and if they don't I saw one for $130 at Best Buy a few days ago.
  • people are already confused over the wiiu... this would further hurt matters
  • Already a few comments asking why this is happening, or saying how dumb this is. But if you remember, the PS2 continued to sell after the PS3 released, so this is nothing out of the ordinary.
  • My Black Wii is already the smallest unit of my entertainment systems. Why do we need a smaller one? And haven't they already announce that they won't be publishing games for the Wii? If you haven't purchased a Wii by now, It's pretty much too late.
  • I really don't see a point in this. First of all, the Wii U just got released 8 days ago in North America and will be released in Europe (and Australia) on November 30th and Japan on December 8th. Second of all, if they wanted people to still buy a Wii, why don't they just make more bundles and deals with the current Wii and its games? It seems more like them trying to attack the mini tablet market (even though the Wii isn't like or related to any kind of tablet i've seen). Nintendo should just focus on the Wii U. *Cough* Make an F-Zero, Metroid, and Star Fox for the Wii U. *Cough*
  • Meh.

  • Let it go, Nintendo... Let it go... I luv my Wii alot but let it go...

  • My fingers are crossed that there will be a commercial for it starring Verne Troyer.

  • Breaking: Customers respond with widespread facepalms
  • Apple: Lets release a Ipad mini... Bigger than a ipod... Same as a normal tablet... Smaller than the Ipad... Nintendo: Release Nintendo Wii: U... Release smaller Nintendo Wii... Honestly I don't understand these companies industrial line-up. Yet, don't be surprised. We've seen resizing a thousand times before. Ex: Nintendo DSI XL Nintendo 3DS XL Anyone surprised?
  • I really doubt it.... Wii is already redesigned by removing compatibility woth GameCube and sells for cheaper. I've seen it sell for $80 last week, so I see no use for this rumored move.

  • Oh the jokes to be made.
  • LOL!!!
  • Don't you mean...a Wiini?
  • Nintendo is banking on dumb cheap uniformed parents parents dissapointing theyre WiiU wanting kids on christmas. Chances are the price will be 100 to 150 bucks, and when parents see the price tag of the WiiU and compare that to the repackaged Wii and/or cant find a WiiU cause Nintendo intentionally limits thier production, they will just blindly pick up the new bundle.

Thus cuting into theyre competitions holiday market at very little expense to themselves and making Christmas a very frustrating ordeal to kids who didnt clarify to thier Ma and Pa or grandma just which Wii they wanted, as it stands most people not involved with following gaming I talk to still dont know what a WiiU is, assuming its an add on so, well done Nintendo way to mess with old peoples heads (pictured above )and kids expectations
  • a redesign of wii... hmm, kinda late isn't it?
  • They should just make a machine that's basically a tablet but for Wii games. You insert the discs on the side and charge it up to take anywhere. Portable Wii. Sure the screen would be too small for lots of people to play them, but this would be for like car or plane trips.

  • I guess they're just trying to milk the last bit from the Wii to move a lot of the software off the shelves. I don't blame them, but really not sure if designing/producing a Mini Wii would be financially viable.
