The lights are on
Nintendo said today it has sold 400,000 units of the Wii U last week during the console's launch in the United States, according to the company's internal sales estimates. In 2006, Nintendo said it sold 600,000 units of the original Wii console through the first eight days of launch in North America.
"Wii U is essentially sold out of retail and we are doing our best to continually replenish stock," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said in an interview with CNET. "Retailers are also doing their best to get the product to store shelves. But as soon as product hits retail, they're selling out immediately."
Additionally, Nintendo said it sold 300,000 Wiis, 250,000 3DS units and 275,000 DS units during last week.
[Correction: Nintendo sold 600,000 units of the original Wii in North America in 2006 through the first eight days. Not just the U.S. Nintendo sold 475,000 Wii systems in the U.S. in the first 8 days. The story has been corrected above.]
I hope Nintendo is successful with the Wii U.
I'm glad it's doing well. I'm surprised its sold this many already. I haven't bought one yet though, I still have to get the ps vita first. Good for Nintendo though.
everyone thinks it is too expensive and not worth it but i played on it at game stop and it was amazing!!!
I'm not surprised that it sold worse than the Wii, there was far less hype over the WiiU and non-gamers weren't sure if it was a new system or just an add-on. It doens't help that the launch titles (aside from New Super Mario Bros U) were either bad or nothing special.
If I had an extra 350$ I would probably get it. Maybe. It's up there.
Good for them
Thats awesome, good job nintendo, your coming back.
Great job once again, Nintendo!
They sold 300,000 Wii's last week? Too who? Surely that market has been dried up by now.
YAY!! I just got my console on black friday and it was worth every penny!!! Nintendo has delivered an amazing new console and they have my full support and best wishes :D!
