Swedish Dev Claims Mirror's Edge 2 In Production

Ngmoco's Ben Cousins says DICE is currently working on the sequel to its cult hit.

In response to an OXM article where EA Games VP Patrick Soderlund said that its Stockholm-based studio doesn't want to become a Battelfield factory, former DICE executive producer and current ngmoco general manager Ben Cousins tweeted, "It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE."

Cousins' comments further point to the idea that we'll see Mirror's Edge 2 sooner rather than later. This past May, the resume of a programming student claimed he particpated in a focus test for the game as well. When we reached out to EA regarding the status of the project, it declined to comment.

What would you want to see out of a Mirror's Edge sequel?

  • If there is even a 1% chance of this being true I can die happy.
  • I do hope this is true. I just finished Mirror's edge a few days ago, and it was amazing. Here's hoping it can come true.
  • What do I want to see in the sequel? No guns and a longer story mode sound good to me. Also, ditch the Esurance cut scenes.
  • Sweet! I really want this to be true. I enjoyed the first one a lot and played it through multiple times. If the new one's story is a bit longer, I'll be satisfied. Bring it on!

  • What I want to see is the same art style kept, larger levels (or could it even be possible to have it completely open world?) and greatly increased length. It would also be nice if the later levels didn't include as much gunners that you have to fight against as in the first game.
  • It's about bloody time already. It's starting to get ridiculous with games like this.

  • Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaapppy face.

I look forward to this. Give it a story that at least makes sense and the level design quality of the DLC and you can count me in.
  • Let's see...

Open world, character customization, no story links to the first game, Frostbite 2 engine, streamlined animations, multiplayer similar to GTA4's, keep the fast loading screens at death, more content, no paying for time trials that look like a child's Lego set, no voice acting that make me want to rip my ears off, better combat with no stupid gunplay, fix the terrible counter system, katana blades, and...

You know what? Drop the runners and their vague reasons they actually do stuff, and make them ninjas.

    Call me, DICE.
  • That would be awesome!

  • good...that was one of the games that actually deserved a freakin' sequel. its about time....if it's true that is

  • OH GOD YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!

    This is wonderful news!

Now all I need is Republic Commando 2 and Half Life 3

  • No guns. Only hand to hand combat and free running.

  • Hell Motherf**king Yea is my response to this, been waiting for this announcement since I finished the first game in 08.

If there is one thing I want to see from a sequel, a fully open game world where you can go anywhere within the city and pretty much find your own paths through the rooftops.
  • Notice the word "claim." We have know clue if this is true or not, but I would love to see another Mirror's Edge.

  • Let's make this happen.

  • I make $74h while I'm traveling the world. Last week I worked by my laptop in Rome, Monti Carlo and finally Paris…This week I'm back in the USA. All I do are easy tasks from this one cool site. check it out..http://qr.net/jNET
  • Cool, I'd definitely come back for seconds.

  • *fingers crossed* PLEASE let this happen.

  • I enjoyed Mirror's Edge when it came out. Hopefully the second is even better.
