Tracking The Wii U At Retail

Nintendo's new Wii U console officially launched in North America yesterday. While the new device is sold out in most stores nationwide, some retailers still have many in stock nearly 24 hours later. We called 10 random stores at four retailers. None of the GameStop's we called had Wii Us in stock. Target and Best Buy each had Wii Us at four or more of the stores we called, however.

"While we will have a constant flow of inventory for the Wii U throughout the holidays, we expect there to be great demand for the console," a Best Buy spokesperson told Game Informer.

Did you have trouble finding a Wii U? Does your store still have Wii Us in stock? Sound off in the comments below.

  • Doesn't matter to me, I'm getting mine january or february.
  • i got mine

  • Went to my local Super Target yesterday to do some grocery shopping and I stopped by electronics to see if by any miracle there were any left. Not surprisingly, they were sold out.
  • I'm gonna wait till more games come out for it!
  • I hope I get one for Christmas.

  • Out of all the places you check in Ohio, you check Ashtabula? Why not Columubus?
  • Online it says they have stock, when called or asked in person they strangely do not. Tried two targets, walmart, and a gamestop.
  • The Walmart near me had about 5 last night, so chances are they still have a few, people around here aren't huge gamers.

  • i would like to but i'll wait for more games to be released...Super Mario is the only game i want to play so far

  • Best Buy in Fargo, ND still had 3 in stock as of closing time yesterday. I was tempted to buy one, but I'll wait till there's more software out.

  • All of reports coming in that aren't too promising... It seems that you should wait at least a few months before you should really consider getting a Wii U. There are just too many problems associated with it on Day 1... OS problems, huge updates, specs/memory revealed... Too many problems... Too many to buy one right now anyway... Give them a few months to a year to iron all the problems out and people might start getting one. But, I'm not getting one if there is a STRONG possibility it won't work.. And from what I am seeing that possibility is very real.
  • Good for me!!!

  • I got mine

  • Walked into my local Target on Sunday morning for milk and they had at least 50 of each sku ready and waiting. grabbed a premium with my 5% discount and gave my Gamestop preorder to a friend who wasnt able to get one.
  • Mod
Many of the Target and Walmart locations here in Montana have them in stock, we only have two best buys, I think one did have some, the other did not. As far as I could see, no gamestops had any, at least not in the bigger towns.
  • Even if I never get it, I love to watch a Nintendo console do well. So many kids will the coolest box of their lives come Christmas. (And of course the adult gamers as well, but thats not *quite* as heartwarming)
  • getting one in Christmas! :D

  • I'm not surprised, wonder if it will sell as much as the wii did at launch
  • Haven't received a call for being on the waitlist, so I guess my gf and I are waiting. But I just bought her a new TV, blu-ray player and a small collection of blu-rays for her Hanukkah gift, so I don't think I'm ready to spend on a WiiU just yet anyway.

EDIT: Haha, I just noticed my home town is listed in the Wal-Mart section... but they don't have the Wii U.
  • Found a deluxe set at Walmart while Christmas shopping and I couldn't pass it up. Not regretting my purchase so far, though that update sucks! I need more than just nintendo land though, so a return trip is in order
