The lights are on
Activision has announced that its Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has earned the company more than $500 million worldwide in the first 24 hours the game was made available. According to the company, that makes it the biggest entertainment launch of the year.
"With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row," said Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard's CEO. "Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for "Harry Potter" and "Star Wars," the two most successful movie franchises of all time. Given the challenged macro-economic environment, we remain cautious about the balance of 2012 and 2013."
The game was released on November 13, and there's no doubt that it will continue to sell like mad during the holiday season. That's great news for multiplayer fans, who won't have to wait long to find other players eager to take them on.
Halo 4 was released a week earlier, and it sold through more than $220 million in its first 24 hours. Considering it's only available on the Xbox 360, as opposed to Call of Duty's multiplatform approach, that's not too shabby either.

Good lord! o.o this really is the most popular game series ever
Wow. Can't believe this ONE game sold that much in the first week. It's unreal.
Not getting any of my money lol I always get Assassins Creed instead lol
I would love to declare that iam cod free for two years now without regret, but my new girlfriend got me blackops for a gift.....and iam actually playing it, well at least zombies part of it. But I have wandered to the campaign and notice something that hasn't been present in a cod game since the original blackouts, a story. Well don treyarch
I can say with certainty that Black Ops is my CoD of choice. They story line, the gunplay are all better then Modern Warfare,IMO
Oh snap! Looks like another good year for Call of Duty!
Maybe Activision will use this money to make a game I want to play. I have all CoD, got them used or they were gifts, and I still don't like them.
The Call of Duty series is not the best FPS, but is definitely the most successful.
Dang! Seen this coming. There were so many people at the midnight launch I went to. As long as the keep the servers up and running smoothly we'll be happy. Unlike day two, team deathmatch servers were all f'd up on the PS3, not sure how the 360 servers fared.
I'ma get hardened edition here soon.
