The lights are on
The free-to-play option for Star Wars: The Old Republic went live today. Players can now get to level 50 for free. This option is in addition to the already existing subscription service. BioWare also released Game Update 1.5: HK-51 Activated, which adds new areas, a new companion character, and more.

I'm excited to get back into it. Now all I have to do is download the...oh, this could take a while.
You didn't pay for that!
'bout time. I'll likely be trying this out soon now.
The game is below average at best if you are subscribed, putting retraints on game mechanics unless you pay for them is why I dislike F2P so much. It makes bad games worse. The only goood thing I found with SWTOR were the voiced mission quests and storyline but even then that grows pretty old within a week. Guild Wars 2 has the right idea when it comes to an MMOs payment model. Buy to Play with no restrictions, a cash shop like GW2's is pretty much exactly what others should try and emulate.
Yay! Now I might play this!
Now release it for Mac and then I'll be interested. But until then... BOOTCAMP, AWWWWAAAAAYYY!
This leaves me with no excuse. Curse you EA! Lol
I just spent few hours SWTOR F2P, and to make it short, it is appalling. They cut in everything so you have to pay in $ to "unlock". For example, most of the rewards are now for subscribers. You pay to extend your inventory, to equip a purple item, to have normal exp, to respawn where you die, to teleport, etc. You think you are going to level up? Normally you have to finish all the missions to be able to change of planet. Now they have downgraded the exp, you will stuck on the first one.
Lucas have been greedy and is going to lose its gamers for that.
Leave it to EA to screw a STAR WARS F2P game by making it into an even larger money hungry machine that cuts out almost everything unless you pay. The game was sub-par at best when it was subscription based and now it is just atrocious. I think the era of MMO's is over. Guild Wars 2 has been the only thing in last couple of years that was worth looking twice at.
