Deus Ex Film Gets Director

CBS films announced Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) is directing the upcoming Deus Ex film based on the game.

"Deus Ex is a phenomenal cyberpunk game with soul and intelligence,” Derrickson said in a statement. “By combining amazing action and tension with big, philosophical ideas, Deus Ex is smart, ballsy, and will make one hell of a movie."

Deus Ex: Human Revolution will serve as the primary template for the film, CBS says.

  • Excited, but not too excited.
  • I can't help but be a little bit excited at this. Adam Jensen could be played by Keanu Reeves doing a mild "Christian Bale's Batman" impersonation and it would be just like the game's voice actor.
  • Sweeet! Just throw in my favorite actors Al Pacino and Denzel Washington and I will totally see this movie.

  • Well Sinister got decent reviews, but lets hope its better than Exorcism of Emily Rose cause that was horrible and there is too much potential here to just waste
  • Cool! I've heard good things about this director, but my excitement is toned down a bit, since he's more experienced with media in the horror genre, a genre of which Deus Ex is not a part. Still, Ewe Boll could be directing it, so it could be worse.

  • Adam Jensen never-AAAHH!! *crowd throws tomatoes*

  • Kinda wish they would make it about the first Deus Ex game, but what can you do. This director seems to only do movies where someone gets possessed, hopefully he doesn't do the same here with a 'virus' or 'bug'.

  • Ohh that guy? I'll just....go and watch Bladerunner or something.
  • I think they'd be better off getting a lesser known actor (maybe from TV) than pursuing any "obvious" Hollywood leads for Jensen. I doubt it'll happen, but I have a terrible feeling the role will at least be offered to Tom Cruise, and it'll kick off a spiral of Hollywood trying to water this down to make it more marketable for a wider audience - and kill anything Deus Ex about it in the process.

  • please don't

  • It's better this way (game first, then movie) than the other way around. But in this case, sadly enough for the gaming industry (and myself), I'm quite confident that the movie will take better care of the interesting history and philosophy behind the game. For me, the game was a huge dissapointment in this concern: they lost the opportunity to show the world why the future should lie in the gaming industry and not, like in the past, in the movie industry.
  • YEEEES! I can't wait to see who plays Jensen, Elias should audition for this role, again...after all he's already an actor.
  • I don't know. Deus Ex has an interesting enough setting to make a kick-ass movie, as much as many other games, but it all depends on what the director wants to do with that. If it turns into what Resident Evil did I'll be extremely disappointed.

  • Alright, not a bad director. More important question: Who's going to be the writer?
  • Wow, a lot of game-to-movie adaptations announced. What games are not getting a movie or show made after them?
  • nice. love both the deus ex games. BOTH OF THEM. THE ORIGINAL, AND HUMAN REVOLUTION. moving on, i really hope this movie actually gets made and released, this is THE only video game related movie i would actually give a *** about since silent hill
  • I'd love this, but I must keep my expectations at the bare-minimum. I just really hope Elias Stufexis, a.k.a. Adam Jensen, can have a notable cameo appearance.

  • I never asked for this
  • Ok, heres my take on this. He's an alright director. The way he directed Sinister fit well with the atmosphere. But I honestly cannot see him doing Deus Ex.

  • hmm. hope its not worst...looking forward to it!
