GameStop: Wii U Game Reserves Double

GameStop said today it's seen 1.2 million reserves placed on Wii U launch titles worldwide. That's more than double the level of the original Wii launch titles in 2006. The retailer also listed off its top reserving titles, which include ZombiU, Assassin's Creed 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and New Super Mario Bros. U.

"While we remain very excited about Wii U's potential we also caution that we have limited knowledge of supply and we may not be able to satisfy the strong demand during our fourth quarter," GameStop president Tony Bartel said during the company's earnings call this morning.

GameStop said it has nearly 500,000 customers on the Wii U reservation waitlist worldwide.

  • Hahahha I bet Gamestop is happy. Here comes alotta customers.
  • Looks like Nintendo may start having some success with branching out and offering more third party support. I'm more curious to see how well they perform when the new Xbox and Playstation are released though.
  • And people said this console won't be successful.
  • It's because there's twice as many available... The Wii sold out, and the Wii U will also, common sense.
  • I'll just wait for the price drop
  • Gotta love it! Hopefully Nintendo is able to keep up the great third party support throughout the Wii U's lifespan.
  • I'm gonna flip if I don't get my wii u on the release :/
  • Reserves are less tan one million, wait list puts it over but ur not guaranteed it till after Christmas.
  • See Rockstar? GTA V on Wii-U please. Pretty please with a mountain of sugar on top.
  • I wish I had money...
  • I actually just returned from my Gamestop. Pre-ordered SMU and ZombiU!
  • nice!

  • I'm family's on Bestbuy's.

  • Wow, didn't think the WiiU would get that big a crowd at launch, I wonder how the records are with other stores. I didn't pre-order, but my gf and I tried the Rayman Origins demo, then she insisted we sign onto the waitlist. I was going to wait a while, but we'll see.
  • That is major revenue for GameStop.
  • Counting the included Nintendo Land, I will have 4 games at launch. The other ones are Black Ops II, Assassin's Creed III, and NSMBU. Can't wait.

  • *takes off sun glasses* So it begins
  • I'm one of them, and hope to add a few games to that in a few days.

  • Nintendo isn't going to have the same success story as last time. Parents aren't going to be buying the Wii U for their seven year-olds like last time. Don't take this as a Nintendo bash, I love them as much as the next guy, but there isn't the same kids appeal here as the last model.
