Looking For Our New Super Mario Bros. U Review?

New Super Mario Bros. U is a great game, but we can't stamp a score on it quite yet.

We played through the entire game, but the Wii U itself still needs an online update that will be ready for the system launch this Sunday. Until this update happens, any online functionality for New Super Mario Bros. U is simply not working. Nintendo could activate the update today, tomorrow, or Saturday. It's still up in the air. So until then we'll all just have to sit around and wait.

In the meantime, you should know that the offline parts of the game (which is probably 99 percent of it) are way awesome. You can also check out tons of Wii U and Mario content on our hub.

  • a mario game being awesome? STOP THE PRESSES!!!!
  • Well, as long as it's way awesome...

  • Good for you guys. Well done.

  • no surprise. .ot a fan of the wii u but mario never disapoints

  • For some reason I'm still not sold on the WiiU, maybe until the next Zelda game or something xD
  • Saw that coming. I was impressed with the game from the trailers they showed.

  • I have no doubt the game is going to be awesome, but I'm still not buying a Wii U anytime soon.
  • Online functionality is important for any new consoles success these days..
  • awesome

  • IGN gave it a 9.1. This is the only game that I'm interested in picking up, but if I do decide to get it and the Wii U on Sunday, I can't play until my son opens it on Christmas :(
  • "New Super Mario Bros. U is a great game, but we can't stamp a score on it quite yet." So in other words, it's the exact same, like everyone expected, and you're trying to think of a way to say that without giving it a score below 7.5/10? Cause I already got that vibe from NSM2's review as well. It's okay guys, you can give Nintendo some open criticism. They could use it...
  • I have this, the deluxe Wii U, Zombi U and Epic Micky 2 (and a pro controller) all pre-ordered and paid off ready for pick up. Cant wait to play this one. In fact I just got rid of my 360 since all the best first party titles (save Alan Wake) are on Ps3 and Nintendo any way - so I figured why not trade it in while it's still worth something (and since the next Alan Wake is next gen any way).
  • PUMPED that this is getting great reviews. It reminds me of SNES Mario which was amazing. I am sad that I'm still on the fence of getting a Wii U though. The reason I'm on the fence is because I just bought a house and I don't know if I want to bust out $450 on a system and games without first taking the time to save up for it. I will for SURE have one by March though as that's when the new Monster Hunter is supposed to come out, and nothing can keep me away from that game!

  • Yeah, that no-online thing didn't stop you guys from posting an incomplete review of Ninja Gaiden III: Razor's Edge.
  • IGN: 9.1 / 10 GI: Awesome+? / 10 The ? will be decided after online functionality becomes functional in next couple of days.
  • i wanna play this game

  • I was lead to believe this game had no online functionality, so I am a bit confused as to what you could be holding out for. Doesn't matter anyway, it is still the game I am grabbing with mine. I am hoping it's just like the wii one, only new and better. If it's like the recent 3DS game and easy to the point it's boring, I will just use it as a party game.
  • the game will get a 9
  • I'm wondering what online portions this game actually has? Did Nintendo actually reveal that? Still can't wait to play this on Sunday!

  • why bother with the review? just give a 9 or 10 because it's Mario, I doubt you'll have anything critical to say. I can't understand why everyone gets so excited for more of the same...crappy midi soundtrack, childish gameplay, infantile sound effects/voices. pass.
