"Demo" Lego The Lord Of The Rings 360 Discs Are Actually The Full Game

Update: A demo-disc mixup with the newly released Xbox 360 version of Lego The Lord of The Rings is only affecting certain shipments and these discs are really the full retail game Warner Bros. relayed in a statement.

Read the full statement below:

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is recalling a small number of LEGO The Lord of the Rings video games that were released for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft to Walmart, Target and Toys ‘R’ Us in the United States with a disc labeling error. The discs in question are incorrectly labeled as demo discs, but those discs do contain the full game content and are fully functional. This error does not affect any other formats of the game. We are in the process of remanufacturing the discs and will get them to the stores as soon as possible.

Consumers who purchased a copy of the Xbox 360 version of the game with the disc labeling error can contact customer support via email at support@wbgames.com or phone at 410-568-3680 for a replacement disc.

Original story: If you're picking up Lego The Lord of the Rings today for the Xbox 360, you're going to want to open the case before you leave the store. It appears that some of the game boxes contain a demo disc for the game instead of the actual game.

Our own Andrew Reiner went to buy the game this morning, and he was told by the clerk that it had been recalled. He headed to another store, and the case did indeed contain the demo disc. The clerk there then opened the cases for the entire shipment and they were all the same.

The issue doesn't seem to be affecting the PS3 version of Lego The Lord of the Rings.

We've reached out to Warner Bros. Interactive to see if this issue affects the entire pressing, or if it was caught before then. In the meantime, be sure to crack open the box and check before you head home.

  • Went to pick up our copy today. Gamestop told us that the release has been pushed back to Friday because of this issue.

  • very unfortunate for anyone that this happened to

  • I'm thinking those discs are just mislabeled, because after trying my own "Demo" copy, it appears that files can be saved on 4 separate slots, and achievements are still unlockable.

Update: I just got off the phone with Warner Bros. Customer Support, and they said that the discs are, in fact, mislabeled. They do contain the full game.
  • I went in and they said I can come back tomorrow. But I went in at about 2pm my time and I was getting the ps3 version. Don't know why this affected me AT ALL. The guy at the counter refused to give it to me, even though I told him it was only affecting xbox versions. Frustrating.

  • That ain't right, man. Just wrong.

  • It's funny because I just bought one from toys R Us and it said Demo but when my sister played it it didnt end I was just about to go return it might as well keep it right?
  • So WB has to relabel the discs and waste their time because Idiots out there will buy this and not read that its not a demo.

  • Who would return a full copy labeled "demo"
  • And suddenly all demo-labeled discs have become collector's items.

  • What's with the disc errors today? Lego LotR and Blop2 with me2
  • Glad I'm not a fan of the Lego games.

  • Hahaha wow

  • Collectors item? Same as the resident evil for 3ds

  • That sucks for people who tried to buy the game, at least the issue is being fixed.
  • If I had this, and the disc worked, I'd keep it. That would be such an awesome gaming collectible. They say the most valuable collectibles are the ones made by mistake. Like the Resident Evil Revelations thing. Or an Oblivion box that still says T.
  • This is one of the times when I put the PlayStation fan boy aside and feel sympathetic toward Xbox users.
  • As Gollum once said, "curse those hobbitses!"

  • I tried to purchase mine at GameStop and had the same problem, so there's more than just the store they mention. First it was delayed 2 weeks, and now this crap?? EPIC FAIL. I'm over it at this point, especially with all the other new stuff out, I'm not buying Lego LOTR anymore. I'll just rent it, they deserve my $60!!

  • So the two major releases today (Cod BO2, Lego LOTR) both have mislabeling? Thats one hell of a coincidence.
