"Demo" Lego The Lord Of The Rings 360 Discs Are Actually The Full Game

Update: A demo-disc mixup with the newly released Xbox 360 version of Lego The Lord of The Rings is only affecting certain shipments and these discs are really the full retail game Warner Bros. relayed in a statement.

Read the full statement below:

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is recalling a small number of LEGO The Lord of the Rings video games that were released for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft to Walmart, Target and Toys ‘R’ Us in the United States with a disc labeling error. The discs in question are incorrectly labeled as demo discs, but those discs do contain the full game content and are fully functional. This error does not affect any other formats of the game. We are in the process of remanufacturing the discs and will get them to the stores as soon as possible.

Consumers who purchased a copy of the Xbox 360 version of the game with the disc labeling error can contact customer support via email at support@wbgames.com or phone at 410-568-3680 for a replacement disc.

--------------------------------

Original story: If you're picking up Lego The Lord of the Rings today for the Xbox 360, you're going to want to open the case before you leave the store. It appears that some of the game boxes contain a demo disc for the game instead of the actual game.

Our own Andrew Reiner went to buy the game this morning, and he was told by the clerk that it had been recalled. He headed to another store, and the case did indeed contain the demo disc. The clerk there then opened the cases for the entire shipment and they were all the same.

The issue doesn't seem to be affecting the PS3 version of Lego The Lord of the Rings.

We've reached out to Warner Bros. Interactive to see if this issue affects the entire pressing, or if it was caught before then. In the meantime, be sure to crack open the box and check before you head home.

  • As long as people get their money back or get the full game shipped to them then I say its no big deal. Plus I would think mainly kids are the only ones who play these games. So they can wait til they get a replacement. If an adult is playing this game. Then no comment.
  • Edge:PS3

  • GURARARARARARARARARARARARARARA

  • Haha that sucks

  • My Gamestop didn't even get them in. Must have gotten recalled before it even shipped. My son is going to be majorly disappointed! I am as well...now I have to keep playing Lego Batman 2 with him...so tired of that game!
  • Someone is getting fired over this I'm sure.

  • Lulz....

  • DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!

  • I better check if this has not happened to me.

  • uh oh. Who's losing their job this time?
  • After my Gamestop and Best Buy didn't get in the 360 versions, I purchased Lego Lord of the Rings from a Super Target in Sanford, FL and it had the demo disc label. I stopped at another Target closer to home (to exchange) and they wanted me to go back to the original Target. I decided to take the game home and give it a whirl. This demo disc label, so far as I can tell, is the ENTIRE GAME. I have played through several levels with my son and nothing appears to be "demo" about it. I can also choose up to 4 save slots. There is no "demo" info. within the game itself. I have no plans to trade it in, which this is so far the only problem that the label could cause. My recommendation ... buy the game if you can find it...it's full length and may be collectible =).
  • I feel so sorry for any young kids kids that bought this and who don't understand that there's something wrong when your game is only 45 minutes long. You can be sure it happened. Some parent bought it for their really young child who doesn't realise there's something up, and no one else in the family noticed it either (I know my mother wouldn't make anything of a disc that says DEMO DISC NOT FOR SALE on it in big writing if my young brother showed it to her, she's not in any way video game literate) and now they're stuck with a 45 minute demo that they'll just keep replaying and they'll never know the difference.
  • I just received mine from Amazon and the disc does not say demo, so it appears to be ok.

  • Pretty funny, when you think about it.  Granted, it'd suck to spend that $60 and get just a demo disk, but it's still pretty hilarious.

  • Wow... soh muhch fale...

  • So this is why the demo isn't online. The release of this game is a complete fail. First it never really had an "official" date, then on the supposed date, the game isn't in stores and now instead of the demo being online, it's on a disc. Wow. No wonder this game isn't getting the attention LEGO Batman 2 did.

  • Man, that must suck for any kids who buy this.
  • Lol thats messed up. good thing i don't play xBox

  • Wow... I mean, WOW! That's the most pathetic thing i've ever heard!

  • I'm getting my PS3 copy later today; hope nothing like that happens to me.
