BioWare Montreal Developing New Mass Effect

by Joe Juba on Nov 12, 2012 at 04:35 AM

Mass Effect 3 was the end of Commander Shepard's story, but BioWare and EA have made no secret of the fact that they don't want Mass Effect to end. Executive producer Casey Hudson has already hinted at things to come, but today we got a few concrete details about the series' next step.

In a post on the BioWare blog, BioWare Montreal studio director Yanick Roy confirmed that the next installment is coming from his studio. BioWare's Edmonton office took the lead role on the previous titles, but Montreal has been working on the franchise for years in a supporting role, developing DLC and even the excellent multiplayer component of Mass Effect 3.

Details are scarce, but we do know that the new Mass Effect game incorporates the tech behind DICE's Frostbite 2 engine. "There is really not much I can tell you about the game right now," Roy says. "Except that it will be built with the amazing technology of Frostbite as its foundation, enhanced by many of the systems that the Dragon Age III team has already spent a lot of time building."

Beyond the confirmation of the game and where it is being developed, don't expect more info anytime soon. Roy says that it will be "quite a while" before more news from studio surfaces.
