The lights are on
U.S. retail sales of video games fell 25 percent year-over-year for the month of October, according to research firm NPD. Sales dropped from $1 billion to $775 million. Hardware saw the biggest drop, nearly 37 percent from last year.
“While we saw declines in hardware unit sales across all platforms year-over-year, when looking at average sales per week versus September, several consoles realized higher sales: the 360, PS3, NDS and 3DS," said NPD analyst Liam Callahan.
"This is a sign of increasing momentum as we move into the holiday season.” Microsoft said sales of Xbox 360 reached 270,000. Sony and Nintendo did not disclose U.S. sales for October at this time.
Bethesda's new title Dishonored sold 460,200 units while 2K's XCOM: Enemy Unknown sold 114,000 units. "Due to the launch of Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon While 2, portable software sales increased by 37% from last October," Callahan added. "However, this growth was not enough to offset declines in console software.”
Below are the high-selling games at retail in the U.S. for the month:

Wow, I did not expect NBA2K13 to beat RE6
So last time, Pokemon White was beating Black in sales. Now it's vice versa. People just love their cool cover Pokemons.

Not surprised. everyone loves their sports, and 2K basketball is (imo) the best the sports genre has to offer.
Glad to see RE6 doing good, but I read an article on XCOM eariler this week I think and 2K said that game was successful. How is 114,000 units successful? That seems like a failure to me.
It didn't even at least sell 500,000 units.
thats all xcom sold...it seemed that everyone and their brother was playing that game....shocking. didnt think dishonored "had it beat" by such a huge amount of copies
was expecting AC3.... hahah!
Dishonored and XCOM are Black Friday games for me. They're $25 at Wal-Mart!
Any way, here's hoping both continue to sell well into 2013 and beyond. I really have no idea what 2K's expectations were for XCOM. I remember, back a few years ago, when the corporate higher ups were defending the 2K Marin FPS abomination that no one wanted. They said, flat out, "strategy games don't sell". Then they went and let Firaxis make this anyway and we were all happy. But how good must it sell to change their minds, truly? And how much did this sell digitally, on PC? Questions, questions...
At least Medal of Honor is pretty low there. And there's no doubt it will be gone next month.
Those are truly tragic numbers for XCOM, I hope the digital download sales were much higher. That is my GOTY thus far.
Pokemon Black/White 2 must have nearly gotten 1 million sold collectively.
Good for NBA 2K 13, I guess. Bet you'll at least see AC III on the November list.
Makes sense. It is a great game. I've enjoyed like all of the games that 2K has put out.
POKEMON BLACK 2 BABY!!!!!!
