Server Errors Affect Halo 4 Launch

Halo 4 officially launches today and things haven't been completely smooth. Microsoft says it's currently investigating server issues that have caused problems for some gamers.

"As you can imagine, there are a tremendous number of new players connecting to Halo 4 right now," Microsoft said. "We’re aware that some users are experiencing occasional issues connecting to the Halo 4 services, and we are currently narrowing down possible solutions."

It's unclear at this time how widespread these issues are. Having trouble playing Halo 4 online? Sound off in the comments below.

  • I've had a few errors, but they have only lasted 5 minutes max.
  • Really they messed up the online play of an xbox game? Really?
  • I'm pissed I can't play, they know there is gonna be a massive amount of players playing on launch day so they should have their servers ready.
  • I had some problems connecting a few hours ago, but everything seems to be fine now and has been for the last hour.

  • This is why I play single player usually before multiplayer. I know the story behind some of the maps, get told a great story, and online usually has several issues...For the first few days or so.

  • The multiplayer story takes place several months, 9 i think, after the single player campaign. so im not playing multiplayer for sometime.
  • Well this isn't surprising news at all.

  • This is par for the course with big releases nowadays. Next up...Black Ops 2.
  • It's been pretty spotty with me, such as disconnecting from the servers and preventing me from using my loadouts. It seems to be getting more stable though.
  • Not uncommon. Online games with lag suck, they are always there. With one good connection there is a bad one. Socom 2, the first day was horrendous with its servers...okay, nostalgia is hitting me now...I feel old, that was so long ago lol. I miss those games.
  • saw that coming. Microsoft always has server issues when big games come out. Not surprising the least.

  • Cough *open beta* cough
  • I'm having problems with the game.....guess it doesn't work on PlayStation haha

  • I can't play online from where I live either way, so I'll just be playing for the campaign and split screen (if they didn't get rid of it). Hope the server issues are resolved for everyone else soon though.
  • It will always be like this for day one. MW3 had a similar issue. You just have to keep trying! You'll slip in there sooner or later! BO2 is gonna be INSANE with the amount of people on their servers...in the meantime, play the campaign! Looks sweet.
  • I've been trying to play with friends for about 2 hours now, but I still can't join them regularly. I can play a game with someone else about every 30 minutes or so, but you can't back out after a match and keep your lobby. That's usually where things go haywire after you've been trying to join a friend's lobby for 10+ minutes.

Other than issues with connecting to friends, there have been issues with lag and people backing out/getting kicked from games, and the game not filling with more players. 4v2 matches are not fun.

  • The thing that sucks for me is that a friend and I wanted to practice a bit in custom games, but we have nothing unlocked and we're forced to play on XBL to get stuff... doesn't help hat my subscription has expired... I guess it's campaign for a while. Why can't custom games have everything unlocked like in COD...

  • You need to play Singleplayer first (co-op is included in this)! Multiplayer is the bonus afterwards.

  • I am notgoing to say anything mean.  I am not the biggest Halo fan.  But it is unfortunate there are problems with MP on launch day.

  • I'm looking forward to Halo 4, but I am amazed that 343 didn't hold an open beta. Might've been able to prevent this.
