Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn Concludes With Episode 5

Machinima and 343 Industries' collaboration, the live-action Halo web series Forward Unto Dawn, is something of an anomaly. Over the course of five episodes, it's surpassed the quality of even the better game adaptations. Not only is it not an embarrassment, it's actually quite good. The series concludes with episode five, which you can watch now.

In the final episode, you'll see Master Chief and Lasky squaring off against the Covenant, who were still an unknown quantity at that point. We interviewed 343's Frank O'Connor about the series a while back, and also spoke with its director and the man inside of Master Chief's armor. For those of you who are more interested in Halo 4, you can read our review here and also take a look at multiplayer in a new Test Chamber.

If you haven't watched the previous episodes, you'll want to set some time aside and catch up before jumping to the end. Take a look at them all below.

  • I can't wait to watch the extended version! :D
  • I hope this gets included as a storyline for Halo 4. Was this made by Machinima ?
  • Machinima and 343 have done really well with this series. Nowadays, it's looking more and more possible to take a video game and successfully translate it into a live action series/film. I hope to see more stuff like this in the future.
  • I just started watching the series yesterday, and it's actually pretty sweet. The action in episode 4 is wonderful fan service XD
  • i wish Chronicles of Narnia girl wasnt in it.......i keep expecting a talking lion to appear.
  • This is a really good series and shows that the halo universe is begging for a series and a movie. Personally I prefer the story line of halo before its just the chief or something that is more character driven than just focusing on the chief, but that's just me.

  • This series was a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, I very much enjoyed the visuals, I was drawn into this live-action version of the Halo universe. It was great to see how just how massive Master Chief really is and I liked the Covenant's very savage and scary portrayal; both elements are effective because the main characters aren't unstoppable SPARTANs, they are regular humans recruits who are both vulnerable and confused when the Covenant start attacking. On the other hand, their are so many story flaws. I didn't like many of the characters, and those I did like were all killed off. Most of the characters were introduced with some motivation as to why they are becoming soldiers, but none get any sort of meaningful resolution. Seeing so much senseless death doesn't make me mad at the Covenant, it makes me mad at the writers for building up characters they were just going to throw away. They series builds up how Lasky has to be a great leader, but there is no one left to lead in the end and he ends up just being lucky not to have gotten killed or injured. I don't know what this is building up for Halo 4, but I'd rather have a self-contained Halo movie rather than a series like this.
  • I really want this game!!!

  • Hopefully Halo 4 does not disappoint. But I'll still wait for a price drop.
  • With the budget they had they did an extremely great job

  • the episodes were so extremely amazing, and fun to watch

  • Good stuff!

  • Was super skeptical about this game, but after the critical acclaim the game is getting, I'm super pumped. Can't wait for Tuesday!

  • Lucky me I have the limited edition of Halo 4 on pre order which means I get the whole series and then some.

  • Wow. This series has been fantastic!

  • Man this show is amazing. But why in the hell do they have to stop at episode 5? They should just keep it going...forever.
