The lights are on
Update: A source, "close to the matter," has told Joystiq that G4TV.com's editorial gaming staff is being laid off. This has not been confirmed by G4 as of yet, but apparently the website will be reduced to a very small staff following the Thanksgiving holidays.
-----------------------------------
The two television shows that define G4 TV's nerd-culture appeal, Attack of the Show and X-Play, have both been canceled.
The news of the shows cancellations comes from a post on G4's Facebook page. Both shows will continue to air new episodes until the end of the year, but after that, it's all Cops re-runs, I assume.
Here's what G4 has to say about the two shows:
"Both long-running shows helped define, as well as expand, the pop culture and gaming TV experience for a generation. We hope you've had as much fun watching them as we have had making them, and sincerely hope you join us in bidding a fond farewell to Attack of the Show and X-Play's as we look back over the next two months and head towards each series' finale."
What do you think this means for the future of the network?
Thanks to Ben Buchnat for the news tip!

the rumor i heard was that the future of the network was G4 turning into a channel that is "GQ on Television". shows for the mid-twenties males about pop culture, sports, fashion and other GQ-ey stuff. i knew they were canceling X-Play but i thought they'd keep Attack of the Show! because the tech world is very much a part of a mid-twenties guy's life.
After Ninja Warrior, those were their best shows...
Thank god.
Yay for tip mention :P. Really sad that these shows are gone now :(
Its all over for that network. I thought those shows were really popular so I am surprised. They did have some weird shows on though for a videogames channel like Cheaters and Cops, plus most people gt their game info from the Internet.
I haven't been able to watch G4 since Kevin left. I didn't even know Adam left. I can't say this was a surprise, though. I saw it coming for a while.
it means the only good show left on there is ninja warrior.
