The lights are on
Microsoft has hit the 70 million mark in Xbox 360s sold worldwide since the consoles debut in November 2005. Though that number appears to be a coup for the company, it was revealed that Xbox sales were actually down 29 percent as compared to the same period (July through September) in 2011. Microsoft moved 1.7 million Xbox 360s in the quarter in 2012, but that's 600,000 fewer than in 2011. Microsoft CFO Peter Klein admitted that the home console market "continues to be challenged."
However, it does put the Xbox 360 far ahead of its predecessor, the original Xbox, which only sold 24 million units worldwide during its four year lifecycle.
Along with this milestone Microsoft reports that Xbox Live memberships have seen a 15 percent increase during the quarter.
I doubt there are 70 million people with Xbox 360s, though.
Is anyone surprised? Xbox 360 is a beast.
I can't believe it came out 7 years ago. That's an eternity for technology.
Maybe this means that the X-Box 720 is coming. It better come out soon for Microsoft's sake.
About time, bring on the new xbox
3 of those are mine. Impressive user base I suppose. That's a little bit above the PS3, isn't it? Been awhile since I looked at the numbers. Well, I'm sure Halo 4 will be pushing some units when it releases.
Congratz, Microsoft. Now, don't let the popularity go to your head..
Ah, who am I kidding.
