Going Inside The Wii U

Nintendo breaks down the internals of the Wii U in a recent Iwata Asks interview. The interview, which is available in full on Nintendo's official website, talks to the developers behind the console's hardware. We also get comparison shots between the original Wii and Wii U.

"Compared with the Wii, the Wii U has about three times the amount of heat, so we really had to wrack our brains," says Nintendo's Yasuhisa Kitano. "We considered solutions such as making the fan bigger and raising the number of fan revolutions. We conducted heat tests for prototypes a number of times and optimized placement of the air holes.

The 4-page interview goes in-depth with the design process and decisions behind the final hardware.

  • It's a shame that the Wii U CPU is less powerful then this gen http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/09/wii-u-developer-reports-struggles-with-slow-cpu/ And the GPU is rumored to be the equivalent of an ASUS 4850, which kind of sucks.
