Some Players Having Issues With The Walking Dead Saves

Update: Telltale says it's aware that some players are having issues with the fourth episode in its Walking Dead games not recognizing past saves, and it's working on a solution.

Here's the official statement:

Telltale’s support team is aware that a small number of users are affected by this issue, and is working rapidly with those affected to help identify a solution.  If anyone is experiencing any issues, we recommend they reach out to support@telltalegames.com or visit http://www.telltalegames.com/support/ for solutions from our team as they become available.

Original story: Telltale's adaptation of The Walking Dead is one of the more successful examples of incorporating player choice into a game's story. The decisions that players make affect the game in significant ways, often leading to the death of a supporting character. It's understandable then that players who are experiencing save-game issues after downloading episode four are getting particularly upset.

Affected players are posting about their problems on Telltale's official forums. Some players are saying that their progress from episodes 1-3 isn't recognized, and that they get a message saying choices will be randomized when starting episode four. It seems to be an issue across various platforms, though it's clearly not affecting everyone. For those who are having issues, it's obviously a pretty big deal.

We've reached out to Telltale about the problem, and we'll update this story if we hear anything.

Thanks for the tip, Dylan!

  • Thankfully it did not happen with me, very emotional episode. Game of the year material, despite the occasional glitches.

  • That sucks.  I downloaded it but haven't played it yet.  Hopefully I won't be affected.

  • Mod
Huh, and just when I was considering buying in. Hope it's fixed soon for those affected.
  • I ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE IN MY LIFE
  • There's also a problem with the achievements for 360 users.
  • I lost all my acievements from Episode 2, but thankfully, not my saves.

  • I fortunately did not have this happen.  I was mostly pleased with the episode, but did not love how the story was organized/presented.

  • I was towards the end of this episode and when it was autosaving, it came up with a message saying that the save file was currupt and had to restart. I was like... I better not have to restart from the begging. I restarted my console, because it froze after that message, and sure enough, it didn't just erase mine, but my brother's to. Ugh, Looks like I'm going to have a busy weekend doing everything over again. -_-
  • I didn't have any problems with saves, but some textures on the clothes of some the group were really weird, along with audio that kept getting cut off.

  • I can't even download the latest episode; Telltale's servers seem to be struggling (non-steam version) :/

  • I downloaded the game on tuesday but haven't had time to play it, hopefully I don't have a problem with the saves.

  • i had no problems playing the 4th episode i hope TT gets this sorted out soon so those who are effected can play it :(

  • Yikes. This is bad...

  • I would be very upset if that happened to me.

  • Glad I avoided this, was very impressed how decisions came back to haunt me.

  • After episode 3 released, all my saves just disappeared. They seem to be entirely deleted from the folder...
