Bulletstorm Developers Start New Studio

People Can Fly founder Adrian Chmielarz, who left the studio in August, has formed a new company called The Astronauts.

Chmielarz is joined by Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki, at the new studio as it works on its debut title set for release sometime in 2013.

The Astronauts are utilizing a licensing deal with Epic for the Unreal Engine for this and future projects. The 2013 game will specifically use Unreal Engine 3.

"We’ve worked with UE3 for the last six years, and we know its power,” said Chmielarz. “Choosing Unreal Engine technology for our future was the textbook definition of a no-brainer. We are on a quest to map uncharted waters, and Epic’s tech provides the stability required for success.”

  • This is awesome news! I really enjoyed Bulletstorm.
  • While some of the swearing and vulgarity was nonsensical and just plain 'too much/always on' I have to say I really really really enjoyed BulletStorm, not many games do I play through twice, heck many I never finish once and with BulletStorm I played it twice back to back. I'd love to play through a sequel :)
  • Hmmm, this could be awesome. Never played bulletstorm but it looked interesting.
  • ...so you left the one studio to make another studio that sounds like it'll be doing the same thing as the first studio... Am I reading this right? o.O?
  • So People Can Fly gets acquired by Epic and than the founder is like "*** it" I'm starting another studio?  Nice Adrian, very nice.

  • Oh Bulletstorm...easily the most underrated game of this year.
  • This is just another piece of Epic related news that makes me wonder what the hell happened at the studio earlier this year.

  • It is kind of funny, Epic purchases People Can fly They are working on Judgement Day the Founders leave with a handful of cash then make a deal for Unreal Engine license to make another game. As long as the games are good, more power to the power who holds the power.

  • This made me smile :)

  • Great news! I hope the new studio is a success. I expect good things to come.

  • Then who's making Judgement?
  • cool ...

  • whooo

  • I have faith they'll do something great, I was disappointed when they were making judgement, like Obsidian they were given someone else's game when they were so much more talented and could make their own more original games.

  • Good luck and I'm digging the design.

  • Awesome! I can't wait to see their new game! For some reason, I expect the game to be thought-provoking kind of stuff... given the title of the developer.
