Badass Rank Reset Bug Reappears With New Borderlands 2 DLC

Reports are appearing on Gearbox's Borderlands 2 message boards that downloading the new Mechromancer DLC may be resetting players' Badass Ranks, removing skins, and stealing golden keys.

This isn't the first time this bug has appeared, and the new DLC seems to be causing it to happen again. Or it could be possible that those currently affected are having a run-in with the original bug, and it just seems to be coinciding with the new DLC.

We have reached out to Gearbox to find out if this is an issue affecting all players, and if there is a fix on the way.

  • Yikes!! This is awful! I hope this gets fixed quickly!

  • Aw man, I already lost all my ranks once. C'mon guys, get this fixed!
  • Wow.  Sorry to anyone this happened to, hope they get this sorted quickly.

  • Starting to have second thoughts on this DLC now.

  • I really excited for the dlc but with this news it seems like I will wait a little before purchasing it. I still have a long way to go before I play as this class anyways.

  • I just played the Mechromancer and I still have my Badass Rank. I hope I don't go to play again and it be reset :S

  • Well that was fast.

How did they not double check for this, there's no way they could have forgotten about this, the game is still new and this bug was recent.

This will probably hurt sales when people start reading about this, they should get right on it, like right now, turn on the pc and start working on it now!

  • Yeah I went home then left my copy there on accident and wont get it back till probably friday.

    College life problems -_-

If true it's a disappointing setback for Gearbox but I don't doubt they're working diligently to fix the issue. I haven't had a problem but did have my Skill Points reset after joining a friend's game; didn't lose 'em thank goodness, just had to reallocate them. Darn bugs!
  • Obviously I don't know for sure but I've been messing with that bug and for me it only happens when I use 2 characters from the same profile (ps3) at the same time. So whenever I have friends come over and play I have them make they're own profile and so far that has fixed it for me. I think it has to do with trying to give the same badass points to technically the same character, so if you're playing with someone say the first time and your both on the same profile and you both kill 10 bandits or whatever at near the same time how would tht work because your badass rank stays between your characters? So you can't have separate badass ranks for your different characters on the same profile. Am I explaining this correctly? Because I feel like that's the problem...
  • I was just about to download it remotely since I preordered it.. Guess I'll have to wait a bit longer before having my Gaige kicking ass, or the kicked will be another one.
  • Oh no I just started downloading it. Wish me luck :(

Edit: WOOO Still got it :)
  • Damn, seriously Gearbox? It's bad enough that I've had to back up all of my saves lately just to be safe but this is inexcusable considering this glitch has been well known since Day 1. Guess I'll just have to avoid the game like the plague until this is fixed, not about to lose 10 Golden Keys & my badass rank.

In the past year I've had to deal with Dead Island, Twisted Metal, and now Borderlands 2 - why the hell can't anyone release a game with no problems these days?!? There were no patches during the previous gens and most games played just fine!!!
  • Hopefully they hurry up with that fix lost my badass rank... twice i think it has something to do with the local multiplayer

Yikes. I hope they figure this out quickly. Losing Badass rank would be bad enough, but losing golden keys? I've been hoarding those from every time Randy announces them on Twitter. Losing those would suck!
  • Oh man....should I even DL this now or wait?

  • Well that didn't take long

  • My theory: It's because the console patch routes you to the main menu, which is actually the source of the problem. We were able to recreate it on my friend's PC by having him quit the game with Alt-F4 or windowing it and closing it instead of closing out properly. I'd hazard that when you have a bug like this that also works with Gamertag/PSN accounts and the like, you're essentially doubling your chances of the file that codes all this info to not save correctly - quitting to Dashboard, quitting from the controller's Turn Off option, etc.
  • i cant wait i dont really care im going to download her anyway
