Bethesda Opens Austin Studio

by Jim Reilly on Oct 03, 2012 at 09:57 AM

Bethesda Softworks announced the opening of a new game development studio in Austin, Texas called Battlecry Studios. Battlecry is headed by Rich Vogel, who formally served as executive producer on Star Wars: The Old Republic at BioWare. He also worked on Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies.

“I have always admired and respected Bethesda’s approach to making great, original games,” Vogel says. “It’s a belief and passion I share, and I’m looking forward to building a team of high quality developers who want to bring that same commitment and creative energy to the games we’ll be creating.”

“We are very pleased to have someone with Rich’s vast experience join us at Bethesda,” said Bethesda Softworks president Vlatko Andonov. “Rich has a history of building and managing talented development teams and bringing high quality games to market, and we look forward to working with him on a new exciting project.”

There are currently no details about what type of game Battlecry is making. A job posting, however, notes that candidates require "a strong passion for games and excellent knowledge of FPS’s and RPG’s." Other job listings say the game is coming to "PC and next generation products."
