Rumor: XCOM Undergoes Big Change

by Matthew Kato on Oct 01, 2012 at 03:58 AM

You want classic X-Com strategy? You may get it with 2K Marin's XCOM, but perhaps not in the way you think.

2K Marin's XCOM – the one that was announced before Firaxis' version, and which was a first-person shooter – may be getting a gameplay overhaul, according to a rumor from Kotaku. A reader has sent in screens and info from a supposed market survey that now pitches the game as a third-person squad title in the vein of SOCOM or Star Wars: Republic Commando, where you give orders to squad mates.

The game was originally going to come out for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, but the PC version is not mentioned in the materials, and they also inquire whether respondents would mind if the game was a $30 downloadable title instead of a $60 retail, boxed version.

Publisher 2K Games isn't commenting on the rumor, so we'll have to wait and see what new direction, if any, the game takes.
