New Modes, Content Coming To Dragon's Dogma

Looking for an excuse to strap on your pointy shoes and return to Gransys? Capcom has announced a pair of DLC offerings that might give you a reason to return to the game's open world.

The first reveal is an expansion called Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen. Capcom isn't saying much about it, but it looks like a new dungeon area filled with skeletons and at least one black, scabby-looking dragon. It's set for a 2013 release date on PS3; Capcom notes that the update's concept hasn't yet been approved by Microsoft.

The other DLC is coming before the end of the year, and it will cost you exactly nothing. It adds two new modes, speedrun and hard mode. They're both exactly what they sound like. In speedrun mode, players must beat the game as quickly as possible to ascend the game's leaderboards. Hard mode is...harder. The names are pretty obvious, but don't think that Capcom has lost its knack for being obtuse. Dark Arisen's tagline is "An epitaph speaks of another's demise." What would you expect from the makers of something called "Dragon's Dogma." (Note: the game is still great.)

  • Ohhhhhh myyyyyy God.... This DLC is incredible!!! Dragon's Dogma is so freaking awesome. Those graphics are stunning. The gameplay looks sick! I gotta get this game. Good job, Capcom!
  • Awesome! I can't wait to jump back into DD. In my top 2 games of the year so far...
  • Wow! This news just made my day. I will gladly return to Gransys now.
  • Speedrun mode is a bit random, but okay. I am excited for Dark Arisen and Hard Mode. Microsoft needs to hurry up and approve the DLC.
  • I have to pick this game up soon. Looks way too epic to pass up.
  • Microsoft hasn't approved of the concept???HUH??? Has the awesomeness of this game left them petrified? None the less,if I were them I would jump on this, the 360s library is quite limited when it comes to games like this.

  • Still haven't had a chance to play this. Gamefly maybe.
  • Overall, not a bad game. However, I think that the Hard mode is a definite need on this game. It is not as hard as people make it out to be.
  • I've been holding on to the game waiting for some solid DLC. I'm glad to see Capcom is working on it.

  • I LOVE THIS GAMEXD!!!
  • Sweet! I had to put DD on the shelf for a while, but I'm definitely going to pick it up again.

  • Add in a better fast travel system and I might try this game again.
  • I'm on my second play-through right now, and this game still surprises me.

  • The game was good - even very good in the first half. The second half of the game gets a little boring because the gameplay is becoming more and more repetitive, there's little to be found that you haven't seen yet. Also, the world is unfortunately not as big as it looks at first sight, you will rarely find a dungeon or anything else remarkable that is not part of the storyline in one way or the other (unlike Oblivion or Skyrim for example). Another thing is that by around half of the game you will have your favorite character class maxed out - and you'll be faced with a decision with two bad options: giving up on the majority of your hard-earned skills to try a new, fresh class, OR keep your skills, stick with the moves you'll have grown tired of most likely by now and let all learning points go to waste. Hmmmm.

If they only added in more personalization options (distribute stats manually, talent proofs as in DSA or D&D, whatever - anything to give more personality to the characters and more diversity to combats), then this game would have been REALLY awesome. As it is, it is just plain "good". Oh, so close.

Free DLC -> always awesome. The other one... don't know if there's enough content in there to get me to pay for it and lure me back to DD, but who knows.
  • wow now words can describe how awesome this is .
  • Finally, I was worried when they added an easy mode, catering to the bad players. Man, a hard more gets me hard.
  • This is absolutely the most underrated game I have ever played. Game informer got it right, but it didn't get enough exposure. I'll never trade this game.
  • YES! More dragons Dogman for FREE?! I love! MORE DRAGONS DOGMA! MORE DARK SOULS! They are both challenging in their own right.

  • Hmmm...interesting...well its good to see more dlc with story are coming out for dragons dogma...but the others...i really do not care at all...but still, very interesting.
