Valve Arms Itself With (Mostly) Functional Portal Turret

by Jeff Cork on Sep 20, 2012 at 05:43 AM

Last week, Valve provided a little glimpse of its latest decoration. Hint: It wasn't a potted plant. How does a full-scale, animated Portal turret grab you? Yes, their offices are probably much cooler than yours.

You can see it in action in the unboxing uncrating video below. WETA thought of everything, from the turret's familiar sing-song voices to a sophisticated target-recognition system and mock gunfire. It's probably best that live ammunition isn't in the equation. We all remember that whole ED-209 mishap.

This isn't the first time the FX studio has created something for Valve. You might remember the Team Fortress 2 sentry turret that they set up a few years back. Either Valve is trying to provide guests with the best welcome ever, or they really don't want visitors at all.
