New Statue Depicts One Of Mortal Kombat's Top Fatalities

by Andrew Reiner on Sep 17, 2012 at 05:01 AM

Update: Syco Collectibles has released the first painted images of its upcoming Sub-Zero Fatality statue. This polystone sculpt is hand-painted, stands in at 19.5" tall, and features light-up eyes for both Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Syco is targeting a January 2013 launch date. The Premium version (above) retails for $324.99, and the exclusive edition (below), which includes a switch-out arm and an ice surface base, is $399.99. You can pre-purchase both versions at Syco's website.

(Note: The ice base is a work in progress.)

Original Story: Syco Collectibles' newest Mortal Kombat statue brings back memories of one of Mortal Kombat's earliest and most notorious finishers. Out of the initial seven Fatalities, the most shocking of all was Sub-Zero's grisly spine rip. This statue stands in at 18", and although a price hasn't been given just yet, most of the other statues in this line retail for $249.99-299.99. This is just a prototype shot. The final version will be painted.

As I was typing this up, Dan somehow sensed I was misrepresenting this series' canon, and burst into my office to correct me. He told me that while Sub-Zero is clearly the victor in this depiction, the lore shows that Scorpion killed the original Sub-Zero, who turned into Noob Saibot. If you have any further questions about Mortal Kombat's crazy fiction, tweet Dan. I'm sure he'd be happy to go on a breathless rant about it.
