EA Announces Dragon Age III: Inquisition

EA has officially announced the latest installment of the Dragon Age series, Dragon Age III: Inquisition. The game is due out in late 2013.

BioWare's Edmonton and Montreal studios are developing the game, using EA's Frostbite 2 engine. The game has been in development for two years.

“We’ve been poring over player feedback from past games and connecting directly with our fans," said Aaryn Flynn, general manager of BioWare Edmonton and BioWare Montreal. "They haven’t held back, so we’re not either. With Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, we want to give fans what they’re asking for – a great story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep customization and combat that is both tactical and visceral.”

EA says the Dragon Age series has sold over eight million copies total, which makes this announcement all the more obvious. The was also word of a survey last month that included leaks about potential titles (including Inquisition), and an interview with BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka talking about plans for a then-hypothetical sequel. There's no word yet on what platforms the game is being developed for.

  • They barely provided any information (which isn't that big of a deal)... But I mean, is it really important to point out that DA3 is using the same game engine as Battlefield 3? I couldn't understand the choice, but why even bother pointing it out? Why not provide some other details? lol

Edit: I'm still very excited for this. DA2 was a disappointment, but after reading Dragon Age: Asunder, I'm very pumped to see where the story goes in DA. DA:O is one of my favorite games of all time, so I hope they really go back to what made that game so great.
  • An RPG running Frostbite 2? SIGN ME UP!!!

“We’ve been poring over player feedback from past games and connecting directly with our fans." Hmmmm.
  • I'm interested in another Dragons Age, but not feeling anticipation rattle my teeth. I actually liked DA2 despite how massively rushed it felt. The Arishok was a great great storyline and character. not sure what to hope for in DA3, but hope they're honestly listening to feedback.

They can't make the same mistake twice, right?
  • OMG YES!!!!! Love DA:O, and DA2!!!!

  • .....let's not mess this one up now guys
  • I voted for that name!
  • I will remain skeptical until you start delivering on your promises, Bioware. Please release a finished product this time around and look at your old games for inspiration.
  • If they listen to feedback and just take the combat from DA2 and marry it with the everything else from da:o then da3 will be successful
  • I can't wait for more Dragon Age. I suppose it will be released in Spring 2014. I just this means it will be on the PS4 and Xbox720.
  • I'm really hoping that they are taking the played feedback seriously in this next installment. I enjoyed the combat of DA2 (although, PC users deserve to have the option to use the DA:O controls), the main character having a voice actor, and the conflict with the mages (more emphasis should have been placed earlier in the game).

Here's hoping that BioWare really knocks this one out of park. I know a lot of gamers are weary of them after their last few games and decisions regarding those games. I'm still going to be there day-1 when it releases. Dragon Age: Origins still gets played to this day and I hope they top the original.
  • I'm excited. I'm hoping they really are creating a bigger world to explore than DA2 though.
  • Hmmm. part of me feels like it's too soon for another DA game, even with the late 2013 window. But then again another part of me is bat- s*** happy there is another DA game! Yes, they dropped the ball on a lot of things on DAII. But I still enjoyed it, even though it was NOTHING compared to the original. Here's hoping they mix elements from the two games. Then something great could come of it.
  • I don't know why... but I'm not all that excited.

  • Who cares dragon sucked after the first one.
  • Staff
Dragon Age 3 on Frostbite 2? I wonder how that will change things.
  • "There's no word yet on what platforms the game is being developed for."

    It's a Wii U exclusive, isn't it?
  • Overall, I'm not very excited for this game. Sure, I'm a giant DA3 fan but DA2 and the ME3 ending were such a failure in my eyes (at the very least they didn't come close to my expectations of being AS good as the preceding game) that the idealistic optimist in me was roundhouse kicked in the face by the cynical *** that's been stewing throughout the years. Anyway, I'm taking the "prepare for the worst and you'll never be disappointed" route. I've already promised myself to not even look at the game if it had multiplayer and forced you to play as a human again. So far, every game from EA will have multiplayer (which they are proud of for some reason, I *** you not) and many developers have been saying that they're still thinking on whether to keep origins so it doesn't look good so far.
  • I'm very excited about this announcement! I love Dragon Age even though the second one was under par. I still enjoyed the game. Bioware is a great developer and as long as they hold true to their statements then this game could be one of the greatest made for this generation!
